What 2.0 DOHC engine choices do I have?

Looking for something I can rebuild, and turn into a 8k+rpm screemer.

To put in another car or to buy a car and modifiy?

If your looking to play with one something like a MK2 Ibiza GTi/Cupra with the 2.0 ABF should suit perfectly if you have the wedge.

the mk3 golf had a 2.0 dohc engine, with ABF engine code, you can pretty much rev these to 8k in standard form

edit: ha great minds... :giggle: beaten to it

I was thinking Ibiza being a bit lighter and more fun than a lardy MK3. However the Mk2 with an ABF or the older Corrado 9A engine can be a real stormer.

Can get an Ibiza 16v for around 1500 in fairly good nick so quite a lot of motor for the money.

ah yes, the ibiza is a better bet for a road rally slag by far, the op doesn't mention what he wants the engine for, kitcar?

I just want the engine, will need something to power my 4x4 Fabia when the wife and I build it ;-)

2.0 ABF then! Don't suppose there are any good books on it? Would a haynes book for a Mk3 golf be best?

4x4 fabia? your better off starting with something 4wd as a donor like an audi a3 quattro or similar, then you can get all the running gear from the same donor car

If your going balls out fabricating a n/a 4x4 Fabia (and it will be a lot of work) id probably use an Audi 5 pot and run it lengthways.

Do the 5pot audi motors rev that high?

Well if your bunging about 10k at a Fabia to make it 4x4 then the same at an engine should see it rather awesome.

If I had loads of money I would go out and get one of the new Fabia S2000's, but at £250,000 a pop it's a little out of my reach!

DIY is it then! Although I'll be using a Mk1 Fabia and they look awesome with WRC kit!.

Must be a tt somewhere that got killed with the V5 engine and transmission.

TT never had the V5?????

v5 engine is not a good choice to be honest, it is a good engine and especially in the beetle but it's just too heavy for the amount of power it makes, you are better off using a 20v engine

The inline audi setups leave the engine hanging in front of the front axle which is not going to help with turning, at least with the transverse setup it will sit slightly behind which is a good thing.

2.0 ABF looks like it will do the job nicely.

They list the other engines as alternatives in the Audi A3 and Beetle not the TT.

Like I said above, my mistake.

I'd listen to yourself or Tom over myself on most car subjects including VAG engines any day.

That review confused me when I first read it, I questioned myself think "Im sure they didnt make a V5 TT..lol"

although thinking more about this, at least the wiring for the immobilizer and ecu are nice and simple on a 2.0 16v abf engine, not 100% sure how you'd mount that in a fabia though becuase that engine was never available in a car where the engine mounts on the chassis legs like a fabia or mk4 golf... in the ibiza and mk3 gold the engine bolts onto the subrame in 2 places at the back and then 1 place on the front cross member.... i wonder if it's possible to use a mk3 golf subframe in a fabia? they are a fairly similar shape iirc and that would do away with those nasty exploding consoles :giggle:

The immobilizer is not a problem, the only oem wiring in the car will be for the lights, locks and windows. I had no intention of keeping the fabia subframe or suspension, it's all far to floppy and unadjustable ;)

i think you underestimate just how much work is involved changing a car over to 4x4, also don't underestiate just how complicated the wiring is in a fabia, that stupid bloody central convienence system that controls all the windows and lights will cause you a headache for sure

Mounting it would be an issue, the 2.0/1.8T and ABF blocks are just about the same so the mounts can swap over, just like fitting a 1.8T in a MK2.

I say let the guy find out, i for one would love to see it done. If your doing it part time i reckon a few years work and about 15k at a rough estimate.

I'll be quite happy if it's finished in 3 years!

Biggest worry is if I don't like it when it's finished!

Thats the problem, its not a case of just knocking up some wishbones etc.

Get a angle wrong and it could be deadly. Plus its also going to have to be SVAd I guess and re registered.
