Featured Replies

Just interested what everyones current MPG is, the average over a trip...

photowx.jpg

Been driving to work and back for the last couple of nights - 110 mile round trip. Been nursing the throttle, been really good Average speed around ~65/70mph.

Not sure how accurate this is.

Dont think the "onboard" is accurate...........could be wrong though. Good MPG

Look good tho :) Yeh, I think it could be around +/- 10mpg out.

Tank seems good for around 500 -/+ miles?

i'm getting around 300-350 to about 1/2 a tank :thumbup::rofl:

At the moment mines a nice low 27.4 MPG, this is like golf isn't? the lower the better right? lol

If i'm doing motorway and I'm being good I can get 44 MPG, 38-40 MPG if I want to get somewhere. But town travelling and my usual work commute is bad 27 - 34 MPG if I'm lucky. But it is only the 1.4MPi 8v!

I see about 150 miles if i'm lucky to half a tank no matter how i drive :(

My Fabia's drinking diesel for fun even though it says it's averaging 41mpg about town but it's dropped from 60 to 48 on the motorways! :(

*cough* heavy right foot *cough*

Lol nope even going light on the throttle it's drinking it, god knows whats up but meh haha it's still too much fun

*cough* stop watching the boost gauge then :D :p

For several of the last tank fulls I have averaged 49 mpg. That's with ordinary old Shell and VPD (both + Millers), I have not yet tried this "Fuel Save" Shell yet.

It's Fuel save i'm using, it's not bad actually if you don't have a heavy right foot like me lol

I'm using the fuel save stuff  good for the 70ish mile round trip i do ;)

I've managed to get a measured 54mpg (well, 53.9-something, actually) over the last ~1,275 miles - almost solely urban driving to and from work (never above 40mph, average speed 17mph). :)

My trip computer is a little pessimistic, reading 52.6mpg ...

i think your car idle is way out ! ,

unless you took this picture driving your car ?

Last 2 full tanks I have got 52 MPG (brim to brim), the trip comp however says an average of 66.2 MPG over these tanks.

The trip in the Fabia is crap in my opinion . The VW one on last car was really accurate.

Lewwy

my car usually hits similar mpg to the pic.

I usually just get 400miles from brim to 'ping' from day to day driving with a mixture or motorway and town roads.

Interestingly yours is a 2007 one like my new one. I can't believe the figures I'm getting in the new one - the old one was much more accurate usually overreading by 1-4mpg. I've already complained to the dealer and will be asking him to recalibrate it when it goes in to get the bumper repaired.

What do you make of this reading after a 91 mile trip from Shropshire to Gloucester all on sometimes twisty A roads travelling either at the speed of the traffic queue or at legal limit overtaking when necessary. It just doesn't make sense!

Recently I got readings of 61.5mpg and 56.7mpg over 110 mile journeys which were admittedly on slow a-roads courtesy of endless lorries, caravans etc. However, the best I've had over a full tank is an actual return of 52mpg- I'm geeky sometimes and like to work out what I'm actually getting out of it. The trip computer is certainly a touch optimistic, but at least it gives a rough indication of your consumption.

get 39.1 mpg and about 32o to a tank !!

My first full tank indicated 61MPG on the trip computer, and the reality on a brim-to-brim check was 52MPG, so 9MPG out. The computer's a bit gash tbh, and shouldn't be trusted.

Currently showing 64MPG on the trip for the tank so far, but I have done a couple of longer trips with cruise on at 70MPH on the motorway, which will up the average, as I usually do shorter trips of 20-30 minutes driving.

Overall I'm really impressed with the economy, and I'm sure I could do better if I drove it like a nun, but what's the point of that?

On the other hand, I'm sure you wouldn't get great economy if you drove it like you stole it all the time. :giggle:

Who's had the worst economy ever from a tank? Come on, own up!

Blimey. Well, chop off 10mpg for an over-optimistic trip computer, and it might not be far off. Most cars (contrary to popular belief) tend to be most fuel efficient at around the 40mph mark, and the AA's own developed real fuel economy tests tend to give best economy on the "brisk country driving" section, so it's not impossible you'd get something around 66mpg on the trip you describe. Seems blummin' unlikely to me though..... I think the official extra urban figure is 67 or summat?

I get an indicated 82 if I get a clear run to work. Yep, that's 82. That's driving gently on a 40 minute journey, on a "flat" A-road with the speed limit varying between 30, 40 and 50mph.

I know everyone will say that's a massive over reading, but I don't think it's that far out - if I press on a bit or drive somewhere hilly, the reading always seems about right (my long term average is about 55).

I suppose the only way to truly see is to brim it and find out!

The figure in my sig is the average sine January using click to click on filling up.

Not bad considering I commute into West London.

I am starting to realize though that you have to drive like a complete nut to really reduce the mpg's this car will do... What effects it in reality is stop start and waiting around on idle.. you can actually watch the average drop so if you hit lots of lights.. I've started turning it off at a couple of slow junctions.

Anyone ever heard of a retro fit stop start?

Drove back from my friends house this morning, 20mile trip in total (dropped a friend off) I think the trip computer was reading 66MPG. It must be totally out.

My average over like 1500miles is currently 55.7mpg

Agreed - last time I was giving it a clear out (60mph in 3rd), it was giving a read-out of 88mpg when travelling at a constant speed ... :)
