MkII vRS MPG..?

Featured Replies

Can you give me an idea of the real MPG for the new vRS, as I am tempeted to buy.., but have a 1.9TDi sport at the moment..

Have you thought about keeping the Sport and getting a remap (if you haven't already got one)?

SWMBO's just bought a Sport, and it's currently giving 55+mpg - I can't think the vRS will give anything near that

too soon to say

I've done 1300 miles so far, my trip 2 is reading 42 mpg. On a 250 mile trip I done ( mostly motorway) going just a little over 60mph I managed 48 mpg. My last car was a diesel and this one with it's super charger really does drive like a diesel low down in the revs, driving carefully the dsg box is changing gear before 2000 rpm. I'm sure the mpg will also improve after time.

I average around 35mpg on a good day. Few people have said they get low 40s but I have only ever managed that once and to be fair I didnt buy a Sports model to drive it like a granny.

............to be fair I didnt buy a Sports model to drive it like a granny.

Exactly

I didnt buy a Sports model to drive it like a granny.

Nice one very true!

I'm just back from test driving the new vRS. Demo car had 500 miles on it and I was out for an hour and a half on some twisty A/B roads. I had the average up to 38 at one point but after having some fun on the second half I ended up at 36.

Mines at 35mpg average, not yet 500 miles on it, a mixture of 50% urban commuting, 10% Motorway (45mpg) and 40% booting round country roads learning dsg techniques and finding the cars limits. As its running in using no more than 75% of top speed (104.25mph) of course. You can’t test the kickdown in any mode without using full throttle though, so hey-ho.

Last 3 years I have done 30k miles in a 2007 mk1 Furby 1.9tdi, lifetime average 45mpg. Real world. It reflects the fact that I am an urban dweller who spends precious little time out-of town or on the motorway. 42mpg round town. Yes I could get over 60mpg “on a run” but as I don’t have a whippet sat on a tartan blanket on the back seat, I don’t go on “runs”, I go for a drive. If you are a motorway dweller, stick to diesel, part-throttle economy is where they excel. Unfortunately I only seem to manage full throttle or no throttle.

So for my mix of driving, so far I’m losing 10 miles for every gallon of Super-unleaded I buy instead of diesel, but I wouldn’t go back, no way, I’d rather walk those 10 miles.

If you love to drive, love to learn new techniques, like to challenge pre-conceived ideas like cars should have a mechanical foot clutch, try a fast dsg, any flavour as long as its VAG.

Lets be honest, the only time I really care about economy is when I'm commuting or doing a long trip. If I go for a drive just for the hell of it, I couldn't care less about economy :D

I fill up far more than I used to, and I use Super Unleaded like i am supposed to and you know what, I love it.
