Dashboard rattle on Fabia?

Featured Replies

I have just tried to remove my central air vents and have found it more difficult than mentioned. First off when I started to ease it out I heard the metal clips coming off, and found out that some had actually broken after they had worked their way down through the centre console. Also the left side does not want to come out and I don't want to break it anymore. Any ideas?

i pulled it from the bottom of the vents then the rest slides out

I cant seem to get mine out and dont want to tug too hard :o Can anyone post a walkthru with photos as to how to remove them?

Thanks all

i own a '02 fabia... had that same problem like one year after buying the car and used some rubber foam (like the one used for cleaning dishes) and stashed it right between the plastic and metal part seen thru the central vents.... hasn't squeeked since.... :D

my superb's just started doing something similar. hope it's as easy to fix, might mosey to the superb section and post. it's a really distinctive sharp mechanical vibratey rattle, appears to come from just above the vents at a certain low rev range (not engine speed related, just sparked off by engine vibration i think) when cold...is this what you guys had?

I had a 2000 reg Fabia with the annoying dash rattle. I took it back to the dealers under warranty. Skoda technical told them to remove the air vents in the centre and wedge a small piece of wood in to stop the squeak. Fair do's this worked....that was five years ago...I hope they have a more "technical" approach to this problem now!!!

Wasnt the same rattle on mine Landwomble...was literally an annoying squeak in the centre of the dashboard behind the middle air vents...like a mouse stuck squeaking behind it is the best description I can give!

I thought I'd posted this...but maybe not.

Mate at work was telling me the following story - hope it amuses....

A long time ago a friend of his was commuting weekly from Bolton to Stevenage, racked up some monster miles (for those days) in his Vauxhall Viva.

Decided to "adjust the mileage" when he sold it. As he popped open the speedo, a little piece of paper dropped out with "Oh No! Not Again!" written on....

My guide here. Hope that helps you out.

Lol,cheers:)

I've already had a poke about and managed to drop the vent tunnels down and then couldn't get that back up for ages,I suppose in your pisture the airvents themselves didn't need to move, you can get something behind the plastci upright without moving them?

Yup, I used a long ruler to poke some rag up there, and gave it a couple of taps to push it in hard. There are other methods as discussed in my guide.

Sorted:) It was driving me mad,but its gone.Used a beer mat,cut in half and folded over, with velcro inside, pushed inside with a screwdriver

Yeah, ME! ;)

I think what I'll do is work on my similar rattle this holiday time. I did it with the old Fabia and it worked a treat. In words it basically involves removing the centre air vent assembly, disconnect hazard power, olook above double vent feed and at the back there is a plastic mount, mounted to the metal of the chassis or similar. All I did was wrap some rubber (old inner tube in my case) with sellotape to make a "ball" and using a long handled flat screwdriver I wedged in between the plastic and metal, in the mount. Stopped it dead! I even found the bit of rubber when I took my wreckage to pieces.

I managed to take the vents out but I can only see the plastic which the air comes to the vents I can't really see what you mean with the metal bar? am I just being dumb?
