Alloys damaged by tyre fitter

Featured Replies

Just had 4 new tyres fitted to my Mk1 VRS at Falmers Skoda in Nottingham.

Noticed loads of white gunk n crap on the alloys but assumed they’d just not had time to clean the wheels after fitting.

Anyway, got home n started to clean the wheels n discovered that all the alloys had nasty gouges about an inch in from the outer rim, all the way around.

Looks like something caught them while the wheels where being balanced.

Jesus, I’m fuming :swear:

Gonna be on the door step tomorrow waiting for them to open

Sorry had to vent.

Was it an independant tyre fitters?

I work for a trye company and deliver to national and independant companies, I have seen this happen soooo many times, mostly when they have 'apprentice' tyre fitters learning the trade.

The usual result is the company having to cough up for the wheels to be sent off to be refurbished.

If it is only 1 or 2 wheels then they look out of place on the car if the others are a bit scuffed, have a go at trying to get them all refubished, if they refuse then at least get them to pay 50% of the cost for the others to be done so they all at least look like they match.

No, this was a main dealer!?

Just wished I'd checked the alloys carefully before I left.

Hopefully they’ll do the right thing n sort it. I only bought the car from them 5 days ago.

That sucks. Not only should they do the right thing but they should sort you out with replacement wheels so you can still drive your car, whilst they sort out the damaged ones.

Good luck

It was not done when thay did the balece.

It has been done when then fitted the tyre to the wheel.

I know this 100% as i have done this befor :'( the arm has been put down to close the the wheel.

I bet they covered the damage with a bit more soap. Was it where the marks are ???

And when you get there tommorrow they will pull the "We didn't do that " stunt

Then you go to plan B and say you wish to have the wheel pull the the tyre remover and can bet you that when thay lower the are the marks line up 100% to the arm :giggle:

But get the number of a solicitor and put it on your mobile and if thay still try to flob you off then just say if you dont get it sorted you are calling then number and the number of your local paper :smirk:

Good grief,

Someone in a backstreet workshop making a ****-up you could understand, but a main dealer !!!!!!!!!!!!.

Skoda UK should be informed, this is not an acceptable level of work. Those wheels looked like they had been looked after, whoever did it should be sacked.

I can understand a mistake on one, but all 4???, was he on another planet?.

I really feel for you, keep us informed what happens, Good Luck

Jesus I didn't realise it was all four !!!

Not good :( Hope you get it sorted.

Jesus I didn't realise it was all four !!!

To bu99er one up is bad enough, but to repeat the same error on all 4 is simply unforgivable. The person doing the job must either be blind or a retard. Either way, they should be taken out the back and disposed off with all the old tyres.

I will never let a main dealer change a tyre, its not what they are good at. Always take your car to a tyre specialist where they do this day in and day out, all day long. A main dealer will very rarely change tyres, thus the machine operator does not really get a chance to use it very often. My local dealer now takes cars that needs tyres to a local tyre fitter because (1) they are cheaper and (2) they dont need to train someone to use a machine that will be little used and (3) they no longer need to keep tyres/equipment and so on, onsite.

good luck with getting them sorted dude...

update us with the result of what happens wont you!?!

... How did you guess ;)

I went over this morning but the service manager wasn’t in and was asked to take it back in on Monday. Luckily it’s on my way to work so it’s not too much of a ball ache.

Anyway, the salesman who sold me the car came over to ask if everything was ok so I explained the situation n showed him the damage.

To his credit he was apologetic and said ‘don’t worry, we’ll sort it’… good news, just hope the service manager has the same attitude.

I’ll keep you up-to-date with proceedings, cheers for all the comments n suggestions.

Geez :S you wouldnt really expect a main dealer to cover up damage, guess the fitter was trying to cover his ass by masking the damage with the bead sealer.

oooooooooooo mother fudgers emoticon-0146-punch.gif

good luck bud

drop in mention of a skoda forum too, and that we are all saying it shouldnt happen etc and we'd wont them done

sometimes it can help if the reputation is at risk, after all alot people look on them and word of mouth is a killerph34r.gif

The damage is bad enough but the trying to cover it up is the worst bit. We all make mistakes (now making the same mistake 4 times in another matter!!!) but trying to lie about it/cover it up is far worse.

... How did you guess ;)

Because thats what I would do :giggle:

Any luck with this? What did the service manager have to say?

Any luck with this? What did the service manager have to say?

It's looking good so far. The service manager had a quick look & said it was probably done when the old tyres where removed... so effectively they've accepted responsibility for it.

It's booked in for next tuesday for the wheels to be refurbed… apparently, they get the body shop guys in every tuesday to do various jobs.

Was hoping for 4 new wheels but I guess that's a bit unreasonable.

They're gonna sort me out with a loan car for the day as well.

I’ll reserve final judgement until I see the quality of the refurb… if it’s patchy I’ll insist on new alloys after all.

Lets just hope they do a better job than the dealer SWMBO bought her Golf from...... they 'refurbished' all of the wheels prior to collection, it was only when the wheels were removed that it became apparent that they had been 'refurbished' whilst still fitted to the car! :o

I knew we should of just insisted on money off the cars price and got them done myself!

That's what I thought too, working from the position of the gashes on the spokes.

I'm another one who thinks the "tyre fitter" should be disposed of with the next batch of old tyres!

Well, it went in for the alloy refurb but they did a pretty crappy job.

The finish wasn't great & I could still see some of the original damage, plus there are a few extra light scratches in the center of the wheel.

It’s going back in this Tuesday.

Getting f***ed off now!

Ive had similar mate,

No where near as bad as yours mate, end of the day a refurb is no good, it will never be as good as std.

Really the stupid T&^%S should of done it right!
