Control unit under rear seats - melted!

Featured Replies

Stopped at services on the M1 yesterday and when we tried to start again the engine barely started and died instantly. Eventually the RAC man found a control unit (about the size of a cigarette packet) under the rear seat (on the drivers side) was melted all down one side and had even scorched the foam that sits on top of it!

it's a 2010 2.0 FSI vRS. so, I assume this is something to do with the fuel system - does anyone know? I'm hoping that it will be a simple replacement part due to a faulty PCB in this unit and we'll be sorted quite quickly. I'm assuming the part can be sourced quickly of course!

I'd expect a dealer to stock the part.

Do dealers hold much stock that isnt a service Item? If they do they shouldn't!

I'd imagine they'd have to order it in from a central parts store

I'm not expecting them to have stock of something like this. I'm just hoping that it doesn't need to come on a slow boat from outer mongolia.

Hope you get the part quickly but I'd be more concerned what caused it to melt in the first place.

Fingers crossed its a cheap easy fix :-)

me too. I'm hoping that it's a just a fault from manufacture that has taken a 6500 miles to surface.

I'd be inclined to request a replacement rear bench too, with the damage the melted unit did to your current one.

bench is fine. it's just a small scorch mark on the underside of the thin foam / carpet layer between the control unit and the bench itself.

On a 2010? Free would be more like it...

I too would be more worried about why it melted, especially that close to the fuel tank.

Dealers are sending photos to Skoda UK (I think) before they start work as they are also concerned as to why it melted.

Why shouldn't they? I'd expect a good parts dept to have the most common items that fail/need replacing, and the top 30/40/50 (depending on customer base) parts in stock almost all the time. That'd include the item the op needs.

I assume you don't work in a service company based on your post.

Part replaced by skoda and it's back on the road. They tell me that they don't think anything else was wrong other than just this part which was obviously faulty.

Sadly they didn't have the Bolero update to do at the same time. never mind, it needs a service in 2 or 3 thousand miles anyway.
