cd changer wont work

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, so please bear with me.

I've recently bought an Octavia Elegance on a '51 plate. When got it home I found the CD player wont play. It takes the Cd's but on the head unit it reads "CD1 TRACK 1" and then nothing happens, if I take out CD1 it reads "CD 2 TRACK 1" and so on up to CD 6. I have bought another changer and tried that, but the same thing happens which looks to me like the fault lies elswhere.

When I checked out the original CD changer I found that the rear screenwash pipe wash disconnected an had wet the plug and socket. I've dried these out and still have the same problem !.

the Cd's load ok in the changer but the head unit wont let them play, they spin for a bit then just stop!

any help would really be appreciated as I haven't a clue what the next step is.

Thanks

It might seem a stupid question but; are the CD's you've tried so far been 'shop bought' or burned? I can't remember if I've ever tried in my 55 plate but I know not all CD changers will play burned CD's. The reason I've never tried is the changer wont play MP3 CD's and all of my home mades are MP3.

If that's not it I'd look at the cable behind the head unit too. What did the previous owner say?

It will take a long time to dry the plug and socket out properly ,because even though you have wiped it dry ,trapped water is acting as a lower than Insulation of the plastic resistance across the pins.

Pins are a loose fit is their housing trapping water. I would carefully use a hair dryer to speed up the drying. Carefully opening up the changer ,use a can of compressed air at first to shift any water, then a hair dryer. It sounds involved but this way you could well have success.I have rescused many electronic items (low voltage only- up to 24volts) this way!
