K&N 57i Induction kit - Good or Bad?????

Featured Replies

I've read a few previous threads where they've been mentioned but no definite answer.

I'm seriously considering going for it, seeing as I can get one today. Thing is I've already ordered the Green panel filter, and the supplier is having bother getting it as apparently Green themselves are out of stock of them!

Some people have said that due to the heat in the engine bay the induction kit would be no good - is this true? I've seen the K&N instructions (here) for installing them and its a pretty poxy air hose going to the filtercharger. Maybe using the PD160 air inlet (which I've already purchased) would help get more air to the filtercharger?

It just seems odd that they would sell something that doesn't work...well on seconds thoughts - nah it wouldn't really suprise me!

I've also heard the oiled filter can break a sensor...that can't be good?

I know most people on here have went with the green panel filter, has anyone went down the K&N Induction route? I'm not too bothered about the extra cost and I'm not looking for any different noise from the engine. Just really want maximum benifits from the remap / chip when I go for it...sometime soon!

Any help or advice on this one...Should I wait for green panel or go for the K&N kit?

Cheers

rossm

I was very tempted, but in the end opted for the green filter and cupra air intake..

Go for it though i'd be very interested!

i think you will get MAF problems that was the concensus on a few vag forums. I was considering it but went for the green filter and cupra intake

If I were to go for the K&N kit and the oil got onto the MAF sensor - causing it to fail...what happens then?

What will the symptoms in the car be? How much

57i kit?

I spent good money on one for my old Astra....it lasted a week before i put the Airbox back on and bought a panel filter.

Wouldn't touch one with someone else's bargepole.

Dont see the point in going for a K&N. Might aswell stick with the stock look under the engine bay with just the Cupra Intake and panel filter, more gains IMO because it doesnt differ drastically from the Manufacturers designs, dont think they would intend to have an open air induction kit under the bonnet, so god knows how warm it'd be & ever opened the Fabia's bonnet after a good run. Like most cars is V.WARM - Not sure I would want my Induction kit exposed.

Hi to all only my third post (been a bit busy) but if i can be of any help i will try.

Only had the furby a little while and no mods as yet, but they are coming. This one is interesting in so far as the possible debate between K&N and Green. I have to say that the Green will probably get my vote, however, my last car was a Focus ST170 and it was fitted with a K&N panel filter and no apparent MAF problems were experienced using it, so whether this is just a VAG thing or not i don't know. I know from the Focus the noise levels were high using the K&N system so alot of guys went for either the K&N panel, Typhoon or Pipercross Viper (don't know whether or not these would be available for the VRS or not)

So far for me i am looking at the PD160 air intake mod coupled with the Green air filter and prior to a re-map, so in summary i don't think the induction system is up to much, me thinks too much hot air in the engine bay for any significant gains. :tempted:

AFAIK, the K&N panel filter is more oily than the Green so can contaminate the MAF. In terms of gains, I'd suspect there's not a great deal to choose between them and I'm not sure anyone's conclusively linked the K&N with a MAF failure....

Had a Green panel filter on my Scooby turbo and now my Fabia and have no complaints :D

Chris

I've got a K & N in my Scooby, been there for a while with out any problems as yet.

It'll probably break down now I've said that.

The car is still under warranty and I have kept the original filter so should any problems arise it'll go in before the car goes to the garage.
