Interior light and central locking fault

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have just bought a 2001 Octavia Elegance Estate. It is a lot of car for the money, but there are a few niggles to sort out.

Yesterday it rained, and I mean it really rained. As a result water started to drip in through the interior light. No big deal and no harm done (or so I thought). I'm guessin water is coming in through the roof aerial or sunroof - to be honest I haven't really checked it out. Anyway the main problem is with the central locking - the car constantly tries to lock itself even when it is locked! It is ok with the engine running, but otherwise continuous (I have had to leave the door slightly open)!

I am guessing that this is a related issue and that the easiest resolution would be to remove the fuse and hope it all dries out? On that note does anyone know which fuse it is as I don't have a manual? Does anyone have a spare manual? Or any other suggestions?

I can tell already that Skoda ownership is going to be fun!!!

Cheers Phil

1. Probably a sunroof drain, either blocked or detached from the sunroof. Other option could be where the roof rails are bolted to the roof.

2. Either water ingress into the large connector plug in the drivers door or a failed microswitch in the lock mechanism of the drivers door. When the car is locked does the red LED in the drivers door flash? How are the other door electrics?

Thanks for the quick reply! In terms of the leak I will check both, but having had a look it seems more likely to be sunroof. And in relation to the door electrics I went out to check and all is fine!!! Central locking working again. I see that there is a guide on here for having a look at the central locking mech etc so I'll do this when I have a chance.

To be honest I bought this car to sell on, but I really like how it drives (It's a 2.0L petrol with 87000 miles) - As well as trying to solve the above, as it has no service history - I am guessing it would be sensible to change the cambelt and water pump? Could you point me in the right direction for parts? (other than main dealers)

Sorry for all the questions at once, but I do have the bank holiday weekend to sort everything.

Thanks again Phil

UPDATE: THE DOORS HAVE STARTED TO LOCK THEMSELVES CONTINUOUSLY. THE RED LIGHT IS FLASHING, BUT STOPS BRIEFLY EACH TIME THE DOORS TRY TO LOCK THEMSELVES. IN THE INTERIM COULD SOMEONE HELP ME FIND THE FUSE?

Many Thanks Phil

Also while your are playing, undo the rear end of the front wheel arch liners and remove the build up of compost in there - just a couple of torx screws and ease it out a bit. This stop water draining out of the scuttle area. The sunroof has 4 drains, iirc A pillars and somewhere at the back - can't remember where. Open the sunroof and pour a little water into the sides of the runner assemly and you should get water dribbling out in 4 places (and ideally not into the car!)

I generally get my bits from either GSF or Eurocarparts. Can't remember the cambelt interval for the petrols, but on the diesel it was revised to be every 4 years/60k miles. My diesel girl rolled onto 170k yesterday so I'll probably be going a cambelt change on Christmas day :-(

Central Locking Control Unit - Fuse 6 (5amp)

Central Locking - Fuse 38 (10amp), "Luggage compartment light, central locking, remote fuel filler flap release"

5amp = light brown

10am = red

Thanks for all of your help so far and I'm sorry to be a pain, but I can't work out which fuses those are - I need a grid reference or panel layout diagram.

Cheers Phil

Arh... I'll see what pictures I can find. The owners manual shows a fusebox for a LHD car.....

Arh, here we go....

Just used one of my images from my w8 mod. Not perfect, but I think this is right....
