Our Fabia vRS Project

Featured Replies

Hi, Said my hello in the newbies section but here is where I'll keep you up to date with the progress of the car.

We got to the car to replace my GF's 2005 Toyota Yaris Colour Collection Blue 1.0ltr, with the aim of getting a diesel that was a bit bigger and with more power. She was initially after a Golf but as the MK4 it way too old by today's standard and the MK5 out of budget I'd managed to persuade her to look at the vRS. I've always been a closet fan of the vRS models but faced the usually URGH! not a SKODA!!!111one as soon as I ran it by her, but after much pushing I finally got her to sit in one and she was swayed. Then came the hunt to find one.

She'd set a budget of up to £4800 and Ideally black, but everytime a good one appeared on Autotrader it was gone within the day or too far to go and look at. Eventually we struck lucky an advert cropped up late one afternoon, it hadn't got any pics but the listing ticked most of the boxes, Reasonable mileage but silver! "I don't mind silver" so I got on the phone. Story was that it was a local car two owners and currently being used by the manager at a nearby Skoda Independant garage, only downside, its got a towbar. It was late in the evening so the guy agreed to leave it on the forecourt so we could go and have a look after they closed.

It looked good, few (very) minor scuffs and dents but otherwise tidy! She was happy and told me to return the following morning to test drive it. WOW! what a quick little hatch and considering I'd driven to the garage in my R34 it was still a nippy little beast. I'd owned a Yaris T-Sport for a few years which on paper is faster but with a high revving VVTi engine needs to be rung out before you go, but this thing is so tourqey low down it just pulls out of junctions like nothing else! I was very happy and agreed on a price and for the car to be serviced (he already informed me it was having it's cambelt done prior to sale) and paid £4250.

Once owning the car a few things stand out, it's a wee bit smokey, a lot of this was due to the intercooler pipe wasn't seated properly I'm guessing as the smoke was black and only kicked in around the turbo, now seated correctly the smoke is a lot better now but still present at times, mainly on full throttle in high gears and on some gear changes usually a puff that lasts a second or two then goes. Now only ever owning petrol cars I guess some smoke is to be expected but it's the gae old how much smoke is too much?!

So the car...

Well it's a 2003 in silver, the guy we bought it off had fitted the facelift rear lights which set it off brilliantly as well as the drawer under the stereo which I'm told is from the Elegance model. He's also fitted Bosch Aero Twin wipers.

In addition to that we've debaded the 'Fabia' and 'vRS' badges from the back and was lucky enough to find two Favourit badges for sale on eBay so have replaced the faded green one on the boot lid with that.

plans for the future:

Colour coded or matte black grille with Favorit Badge

Stubby aerial (if I can ever get the OEM one off)

Dension Ice Link Gateway 100 (so she can plug her iPod in)

New centercaps for the wheels (maybe refurb them first)

Tinted rear windows

Remove towbar and source new rear bumper

Bumper protector so that the dog doesn't scratch it getting in and out

Replace the gear knob infill as the laquer has peeled.

maybe colour code the rub strips and door handles but that's a luxury really.

I haven't any photos yet as its already filthy (mainly a sooty backside :p) but I will get some up ASAP.

Your GF will be loving the Furby going from a 1ltr Yaris!

Oh yes!, she went from "I'm still not keen on how it looks" as we pulled onto the garage forecourt the day we went to pick it up to "I LOVE it!!!" by the time she'd arrived back home after driving it on her own for the first time.

All diesels smoke a little it's just how they are so nothing to worry about, remapped ones smoke alot more :lmao:

I've got an awesome gti map on my vrs and it's excellent with smooth power delivery through the revs so I deffo recommend going to them
