Felicia MPI 1.3 Throttle body reset

Featured Replies

I cleaned the throttle body on my Felicia 99 MPI 1.3 as it was running a bit lumpy.

Now when I start it, it ticks over at about 1000 rpm, then when I rev up it sticks between 17000 - 20000 rpm!!

if I blip the throttle it with drop down to 800 rpm

I have VAG COM 409.1 but don't know how to reset the throttle body

Instructions needed

Thanks

Hopefully that'll fix it. I've also had similar symptoms of over-fuelling (lumpy running and sticking idle) caused by air leaking into the exhaust before the lambda sensor. Don't ask how those cracks appeared in my manifold... ;)

Reminds me I must finish cleaning the oil out of my throttle body, too.

I followed this, but no change? I did try group 098 and 001.

Also in the instructions it says "Enter Group 098 (Note: Some SIMOS or Marelli ECU's use Group 001 such as ADY & AEE engines)

* [Go!]

* [switch to basic settings]

Once you do this you will see the top right display say ADP RUN. The TB adaptation is being done as soon as you switch to basic settings"

in basic settings I don't get ADP RUN, it just shows some 0000 - I do hear the butterfly moving though.

are there any fault codes stored on there? you cannot do it with any codes stored, also the engine needs to be NOT running

it's deffo group 01 on that ecu

although if you are hearing the v60 moving then i guess it has worked or it would return the fault code 'basic settings not performed'

ALL SORTED NOW

I thought about it long and hard and came up with the posibility that when I cleaned the thorttle body, with engine running,

spraying carb clener in it - that some of the crap had covered the inlet temperature/pressure sensor in the manifold.

So I removed inlet temperature/pressure sensor, using a cotten bud and tissue very carfully cleaned it, refited it and took her for a spin - sorted

tick over and revs drop back as normal

Hello I have the same problem like you , identical I might say , could you be so kind and upload some pictures with the sensor that you have cleaned, also where it is and how to remove it,

Thanks in advance

The MAP sensor referred to is in the middle of the inlet manifold, behind/under the throttle body. It's normally held in by two (probably Torx) screws - just unplug the electrical connector, remove the screws and pull it out.

I don't have a photo, but if it helps you can see clearly where the mounting for it is on this diagram of the inlet manifold: http://www.feliciaklub.dk/parts/index.php?sub=44&cat=2

I HAVE THIS CAR WITH SAME ISSUES.THE SOLUTION IS A SOFTWARE FROM MOTORDIAG http://www.motordiag.eu/msm/index.php the software is free you need only a cable fromeBay obd fast kkl.After use that you can make the basic adjustment for throttle body.I spoke with MOTORDIAG andtold me that the Ecuador unit Sims 2p in skoals Felicia 1.3 mpi has bug.So when you clean the throttle body or released you must use their software.I made that step by step and now no problems with idle speed.

First you must do a factory reset with MOTORDIAG and after you use the program you prefer for basic adjustment of throttle body.I made all these. Procedure. And now the car works perfect.

You do realize you're answering to a 2 years old topic, right?

Yes sorry hope to see my post.I HAVE THIS PROBLEM SEVERAL YEARS.MY HOPE IS TO READ MANY PEOPLE WITH SKODA FELICIA.

 I have the same problem!!! Can you tell me more about motordiag and which program exactly do i need???

Μπορείς να μου πείς περισσότερα;;; Ποιό πρόγραμμα δηλαδή χρειάζεται να κατεβάσω;;

Download it and read included help.

Thanks for your help. I will do it on the weekend and i will be back if i have any mote questions.

Finally i went to a Skoda specialist and reprogrammed the throttle!!!!!!

Have a question.

Years ago my dad had problems with the throttle body motor (the car is 1.3 mpi). He went to a mechanic, but he told my dad that the part is not 100% repaired. So my dad kept driving the car like this till today, but he bought another throttle body second hand in case something happens. Now it is time the broken one to be cleaned and I think that I should try to put the new (which is already cleaned) instead of the broken one just to see if there will be any difference.

Is it possible that after the replacement there won't be need of reset, because I don't have VAG COM?

I'm asking this because by my logic if you remove the battery, there is no power to the computer and it shouldn't matter if the throttle body is connected or disconnected, so when you put it back you should need to reset it but it isn't needed.

That is what I think, I might be wrong, but that is why I'm asking you guys!

Thanks!

I read in other forums and in the VW one people that the throttle body needs reset if it was so dirty that the computer changes the valve settings, so it is all about luck when I put the new throttle body in. Is that right?

Plug the new one in and if you are patient it will self adjust.
But it will take long.
If you reset with motordiag simos manager it will take less time

Thank you! I'll try may be next week and we'll see.

By the way, that is total nonsense.

May be I didn't explain right.

I undrstood that when the throttle body is dirty, the computer changes the setting for idle. But I'm not sure.

by valve he means BUTTERFLY valve

That is quite a different kettle of fish.

Now, to be clear about the throttle valve getting dirty, here is an explanation. As carbon deposits build up on the sides of the throttle plate and on the throttle body itself, the valve doesn't close as it should. That makes the idle erratic or lower in time as the air flow is disturbed. The ECU has a limited amount of possibility to adjust the idle automatically in relation to the angle of the valve at idle.

Now, after cleaning the valve, the new values of the throttle plate angle (closed, middle, fully open) need to be relearned. That is called a throttle body reset.

Hello!

Im having a same problem, than author of the thread. I just clean the throttle body, after putting back it show same problem as author. That is: if let go fo throttle at 1500-2000 rpm, idle cannot find its way down. Tap the throttle, rpm go down. Let go throttle at higher rpm, rpm go down. Idle is normal at 800 rpm (when its not 1500-2000). Other wise car work 100% normal. I did TBA reset i think 10 times with VAGCOM, so difference, also clean the sensor on intake manifold. Solution?
