DPF problems.

Featured Replies

Last sunday my VRS desiel decied to go into limp mode with the DPF light on and the glow plus light flashing. have to get the car recovered as i was told its unsafe to drive.

On monday the car was taken to Simpsons skoda in preston which they said it just needs a regen and all with be fine.

Picked the car up on the tuesday and off i went, now ive done over 700miles since tuesday which has been on country lanes and motorways, until yesterday which i just drove to my girlfriends and back again about 20miles round trip. i noticed the car playing up again the revs stayed stuck at 1000rpm and the car was very jerky and felt lumpy to drive.

Now i know if i keep driving it the DPF light with come on and go into limp mode again.

The dealer has said its had the upgraded sensor on the car and theres nothing else for him to change.

The dealer also said i should'nt be doing any short trips in the car.

I getting fed up with the car now and this aint the first time ive had these issuses.

Can anyone help me as im thinking about getting rid of the thing which i dont want to do. :'(

My car had the same problem - it turned out to be the exhaust pressure sensor. When this failed it also knobbled the signal from the exhaust temperature sensor, which put the ECU into limp home mode. I got the pressure sensor replaced at the dealer (thankfully under warranty) and all has been ok since.

Hope that helps!

7K on my 4 month old CR vRS with no DPF issues to report.

Sucks that the DPF is causing so many problems on PD based engines =/

Out of interest guys, do you think there would be a big interest in DPF revomal pipework? Been thinking about this issue (fortunately i dont have a DPF) and spoke to a few who think that they could "make" a solution.............................

Obviously need to get a mapper/tuner to "take out" the management light.

:D

I hate to say this, but if you decide that the best route is dpf removal/deletion, then this has got to be a modification from standard. The insurance companies will probably also think, with some logic, that if an obstruction is removed from the exhaust system, then an improvement in performance will result.

Many of the main stream insurance companies won't insure vehicles with any mods nowadays and no one wants to run the risk of being uninsured. Insurance companies will often look for for all sorts of angles to get out of paying and modding the vehicle and not telling the insurance is a no brainer. I know - I did freelance investigations for insurance companies years ago.

The whole dpf thing is quite insane, loads of info out there if you aren't convinced. I've gone back to petrol after several diesels. Try the 1.8Tsi - it's sensational.

The vast majority of us modify their cars in one way or another. Of course alot insurance companies will insure if you remove the DPF, same as changing an exhaust, brakes or even tinting the car. The performance will increase, i presume.

The premium will go up but thats par for the course.

Rather pay the insurance increase (within reason) than have to pay alot more for repairs etc when the warranty runs out and a DPF issues arises.......................

Same thing why people remove the EGR valve..............

Got my vRS PD from new in March 08 and in 47,000 miles the DPF gave me no trouble at all.

Then, this morning, the light came on for the first time and it went into limp mode within about 20 minutes. I was on the A1 trying to regenerate it at the time!

I do 20 miles each way on the M62 Monday to Friday so I never thought the problem would occur. It's at the dealer tonight and hopefully they'll sort it for tomorrow.
