Query - Removing the inner skin

Featured Replies

Anther door related query from me i'm afraid

I'm sound proofing my car at the moment and tried to remove the outer skin, with all the big self tapping bolts off it still held firm. am i missing something :(

Quite alot actually.

The inner skin or ancilleries carrier as its called holds the window regulator and the door catch in position.

Its quite a tricky job to remove it and its very important to get it back on correctly or it will leak in water.

Thanks for the reply

sounds like a hard job :(

My car has manual windows does this change anything?

As a rough guide this is what you need to do...

1. Remove Door trim

2. Remove window glass (two 10mm bolts through the two round holes with plastic caps on)

3. Remove door handle and lock (exterior)

3 Unbolt door catch

4. Unclip wiring loom from carrier

5. Undo 10mm bolts around the edge of carrier (or pop rivets if your unlucky)

6. Slide the carrier down a bit reach in and unplug the connector on the door catch

7. Remove carrier towards the bottom.

No real difference in the manual window other than you dont have a motor to take off/worry about.

I'll be taking mine off soon to sound proof the door and will be doing a 'how to' I think as quite a few people have asked recently, its not that difficult once you have done one.

And the thing to remember when refitting the cable back into the exterior door handle dont make it too tight, if you do when you shut the door it pulls the catch over into deadlock and you cant open the door again.
