SAT nav help

Featured Replies

need help in choosing a sat nav system. must be not too expensive and easy to use. just seen this in halfords Navman icn 510 for 399.99 plus 49.99 fitting. is there such a thing as a sat nav/camera detector in 1 device? many thanks. hope everybody had a nice christmas.

TOM TOM GO?

Its a portable unit, has a battery so you don't need wires all over your dash and you can put the speed camera software onto it.

Getting one myself, I like it that much.

Mio 168 was the one Aldi did badged as a Milotec for

I've said it once, twice and am quite happy to say it again: IPAQ 1710, TomTom with wired gps and TomTom car kit (much nicer than Halford/Aldi specials) -

49.99 fitting

Pardon?

Many thanks for all the advice. The 49.99 fitting charge was for wiring it in,not sticking it on. How long does the battery last in the portable ones?

I followed a link last night but after the 'bandwidth' problem, couldn't find it again but I had saved it in Favourites and this is it: thanks to whoever posted it

Seems to have everything I asked about including memory card and camera software.

Never heard of Handtec though-are they OK?

Josh-great photo in Picturesque Backdrops thread.

the iCN510 battery will last for four or five hours.

ditto Tom TOm Go.

My choice out of the two was the iCN510 - smaller, sleeker, easy to hide in my pocket so nobdy at home know i've got one......... ;)

The 510 does seem to be very hard to get hold of though. Really struggled to get one for my dad in time for christmas.

Really?

They had three in at the PC World round the corner from work the week before. Had half a dozen TomTom GO's and a handful of the more expensive 600 series Navman's.

Must be a local supply and demand thing...

AS for the Speed Camera stuff Plumsoul, you usually add those after yourself, downloadable from places like www.pocketgps.co.uk

Not necessariliy totally up to date - it hasn't got the camera on the main road round the corner from my house, but they only painted the lines on the road two weeks ago..........

Like the sound of this one but do you know if it definitely comes with free camera detector software? Some sites say it has it and others don't mention it. Same with the memory card.

Thanks

As Javaman says, the camera detector software is free, its just a POI (point of interest) database of which there are plenty (the Shell petrol station database is a good one for those running on Optimax). The package I suggested is a 'one-box' bundle from HP so you get a 128MB SD card in with it. Its fine for the GB map (101MB) but you may well wish to get a larger card if you get hold of the European map and/or start storing mp3s.

Been all round looking at Sat Navs today, getting thoroughly confused by all the different prices everywhere and annoyed by finding good deals only to discover they are out of stock. Currys wanted

Swear by Tomtom myself - got me round the Boulevard Periphique south to north, without a useable map in the rush hour. In the correct lane all the way.

Roger

pick up pda magazine in whsmiths. some good bargains in there.
