Possible winter tyre set for someone?

But they are 6,5J and ET52 instead of 6J and ET50... Though they come with centre caps and are in silver instead of the Skoda black ones I'm getting with my car. And yes I know the caps will say VW on them but for a few months in winter it can't hurt or you can buy some Skoda stickers to put over them!

I won't get these as I'm getting them from my dealer, but maybe TP can say if they would even fit a Yeti and someone else can bag a bargain!

Well worth the money if you're thinking about winter tyres this year. Just think about your lovely alloys tucked up safe in the garage away from all the salt and grime :)

ETA: Don't forget to tell your insurance company, as mad as that sounds. Worth the phone call.

So are you swapping your 17's that the Yeti will come with, for the 16" with winter tyres ???

What does TP say about just swapping just the tyres over, ie to Nokians with the same 17" wheels ??

:(

I have bought a set of Audi 16" alloys from Ebay - cost me about £100 and I will sell on the part worn tyres at some point. You need to be careful to buy not just the correct offset but also be careful about the PCD. Golf GTi wheels are no go but most wheels for the Audi A4 or VW Passat will fit. The badges from the centres of my 17" Skoda alloys are even a straight swap for the Audi ones and again I will sell those on Ebay.

When winter tyres become available I will get myself an appropriate set of Nokians or similar and look forward to winter.

As long as you stick to approved size, loading and speed ratings for the tyres then there should be no problem with insurance.

I think that this should prove to be quite an economical way of doing things as whilst I have the winter set on, the summer set will not be wearing out. They may only be used for a month or two but if it means that I can get to work more reliably, it will save me having to take holiday from work at a time of year when I'd rather be earning money!

Hi,

my supplying dealer tried some spare 16" Octavia alloys on their demo to run winter tyres but found the did not fit, which was a shame as they had another set I could have had :(

As you can see from the pic below even the standard tyre position is quite close to the strut (front) never mind the bodywork.

Regard tyre size did notice that evo were running an SE with 205/50 R17 Avon winter tyres on the standard Dolomites. This size is normally recommended for the 'Flash' winter 6J x 17 alloys; not come across it being used on the wider 7J as with the Dolomites. Could be a better option for a winter tyre than staying with 225/50 if you were swapping tyres rather than rims.

Hi I thought the audi alloys had an ET (offset) of 42, where as the spec for the Yeti is 45 on 16" rims?

Some do, some don't.

The offset I believe needs to be ET45 and the PCD is 5 x 112 on the Yeti.

The earlier Audi A3, Fabia, earflier Golf GTi and mk1 Octavia amongst others have a pcd of 5x100 and their wheels will simply not fit over the studs of a Yeti. Most Audi A4s, most Octavia 2 and Yeti have a pcd of 5 x112.

My 'new' winter set come off an Audi A4 Avant Quattro and with a set of winter tyres that match or exceed the handbook tyre spec for the Yeti, should do quite nicely. They should also look quite smart as the donor vehicle was by no means low rent

If buying from anywhere, you need to carefully check the numbers but there are a lot of sets available via Ebay and it's worth waiting for a seller who knows what details to quote on their listing. I paid £100 for a set that are hardly marked, are straight and need nothing more than a polish.

This saw this unused brand new set on eBay. The seller does not know much about them, but they are the very unique T5 silver steel wheels with triangular holes instead of the normal round ones. If someone can verify their size and offset, these will make a great set of winter wheels AND the black centre caps are included! Just stick some of these over the VW badges.

EDIT: aha! Just a few post down in eBay found this set. The reason these are rare is that they are 17" and not 16". So unless you want 17" winters they are not really suitable for the Skoda approved winter tyre sizes. They would have looked nice though.
