Looking to buy a Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm sick of the 33mpg I get out of my Peugeot 206 GTi 138 and have decided that a Fabia VRS 130 would be a good upgrade considering the mileage I do.

Any buying tips on things to look out for?

Any common faults?

When should the timing belt be changed & what sort of mileage do the engines go to? (I had an old Audi A4 1.9TDi that went onto 230,000 miles before it got written off)

I've got a budget of up to £5k and would like as low mileage as possible with FSH.

Thanks

Is there a definitive "buyers guide" on here somewhere? These questions come up time and time again and merit a sticky topic - or it's own website!

Bump.

I presume you've done a search now and found some of the answers.

"Any buying tips on things to look out for?"

Cruise desirable OEM extra but readily retro-fittable to most (but not all) cars.

Black hard to keep clean.

OEM seats are horrible - I had my 2004 one leather trimmed before delivery.

You're not allowed to fit a towbar

"Any common faults?"

The front suspension and steering seem weak - I had new bushes, new boots and a new rack amounting altogether [3 separate occasions] to around £1000 - hence I sold mine before more expense beckoned in that area

Turbo pipes pop off - poor quality mouldings

Many people report rear doors leaking but that didn't happen to mine.

"When should the timing belt be changed & what sort of mileage do the engines go to? (I had an old Audi A4 1.9TDi that went onto 230,000 miles before it got written off)"

4 years/ 60,000 miles whichever comes first - people say replace the water pump at the same time though dealers don't want to know.

For servicing check it's had an Inspection service yearly not just an oil change.
