Hi and Decisions Decisions

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, my first post.

Decided to purchase an Octavia VRS, but can't decide between a Tdi or FSI

I have my eye on a 2007 VRS PD TDI 43000 miles race blue - £10000, or 2007 VRS FSI 31000 miles race blue - £9000

Will probably keep it for 5-6 years.

I do about 12000 miles/year

TDI probably gives a saving of about £30/1000 MILES of fuel, reduced insurance £50/year and road tax by £80/year = total saving of £490/year.

Is the extra BHP and quieter engine of the FSI worth it, or should I be sensible and go for the Tdi?

Has anyone out there owned both and had a preference?

Thanks for future replies.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hi. Whilst either would be great, from what I've experienced on test drives of both, you'd have more fun with the petrol. The diesel is really good, but the petrol has that 'gulp, wow!' factor when you put your foot down. Ultimately, if you're after a vRS, then you're already quite far down the path where how a car makes you feel is at least as important as the more mundane considerations of 'real' life such as running costs. For what it's worth, with your smallish mileage, I think the petrol is a better bet. Good luck choosing-you can't go wrong with either car. Just don't expect it this side of Easter!

Hi, have a word with b33fy, he has both. Been out in them, it's a close call tbh imho.

Welcome to Briskoda.

My money would be on the TDI octy mate.

I have had my Octy vRS TDi for 4 days now and in all honesty it is bloomin amazing, i have driven the TSi and yes it is faster but tbh there are very few places that the difference in performance between the two can be really exploited, so i am extremely happy that i have the TDi with slightly less performance but all the savings you listed . But whichever you choose i guarantee you will be very pleased.

Thanks for the reply. My minds made up it's got to be a TDi. But my budget won't stretch to a new one. I'm going for 2007 model PD TDi.

Is your's a new VRS?

Yes mine is a brand new CR Tdi, I have no experience of the PD so being honest my comparisons may not be as accurate. I understand that the PD has a different torque curve in comparison with the CR so you could probably do with talking to a PD driver.
