Back boot/hatch keeps opening

Featured Replies

I've looked around the forums, but couldn't find anyone having the same problem.

I have a Skoda Fabia 52 plate, and the boot doesn't close properly. When I shut the hatch, it pops open within a fraction of a second. I can hear the sound of the lock (solenoid) working, and then the boot opens. Every once in a while the door stays closed, but then, opening+closing the driver door releases the lock again. The only way to close the hatch I found, is to lock the central lock, and then shut the hatch.

Did anyone here had the same problem? Any tips about fixing it? I had a look at the lock, and I couldn't see anything wrong with it. I looks like an electrical problem to me....

Thanks!

The passat has a boot release in the drivers door, not sure if the Fabia has one? If it does that could be the cause?

There is a boot release (cable release) on the floor, near the driver door. But from the sound the solenoid makes I'm quite sure that causing the boot to pop open. Not the cable release...

I guess if it is an electrical problem, it may show up when the car is connected up to a computer. But I didn't want to do that if there is a simple fix. Maybe someone knows?

Will probably be a fault with the release handle switch in the tailgate. Don't know if this could somehow be related to a screenwash leak inside the tailgate.

Actually, the problem started when my tailgate window got broken. Maybe some water got inside, or some cables got severed. Is there an easy way of disconnecting the handle switch, so that I could confirm that's the problem?

Thanks!
