Brakes, timing chain, exhaust....

Featured Replies

Hi all, new to all this malarky, and trying to sort a few things out - I have a 1.4 Skoda Fabia, Petrol, 2002.

First off - do I have a timing belt or chain? How do I find out?

Getting some attention to brakes - rear - any recommendations as to makes? I usually use europarts, they stock pagid - they ok?

Also trying to look at exhaust as it is pretty corroded and want to replace before winter, and recommendations for suppliers?

thanks in advance, all-knowing ones!

If it says 'MPI' on your boot, and MPI on the engine cover, you have a cam chain.

I had mine replaced after 89,000 miles as it was getting louder and louder!

IIRC The only other Fabia with a Chain is the 1.2HTP

Pagid are one of VAG's OEM suppliers for brake parts. The reason ECP are cheaper is that the boxes don't have VAG stamps on them!

If it's a 1.4 8v (MPI) then a chain. If it's a 1.4 16v then a belt. The 16v is the only petrol Fabia with a belt (change 60K or 4 years).

Unfortunately there are no after-market exhausts for a normal Fabia, only only ones for the vRS, so I'd just go to a Tyre & exhaust centre and get one fitted.
