Yeti 1.2 TSI SE Auto no bonnet sound insulation ?

Featured Replies

I notice diesel variants have sound deadening fitted under the bonnet but petrol versions come without it.

To make the ride quieter could I buy and fit the item ( simply attached with plastic clips to centre section of underside of bonnet ) without invalidating the warranty?.

Would the engine bay get hotter and have adverse effects on engine running or cause any damage?

Would it have any noticable effect ?... the dealer didn't think it would and wouldn't comment on any effect on

the warranty.

Shouldn't you ask the first question: Is the engine noisy to your ears? If not, why bother with the rst?

You can buy the sound blanket and attach to the bonnet. Why it should have any effect on the warranty, I cannot imagine. If it makes any difference, I do not know. I also do not see that it would have any noticeable effect on the temperature.

The diesel variants have two sound deadenng items - a plastic tray snapped on top of the engine (I cannot imagine that it has any other function than as a sound shield - and an insulation blanket snapped under the bonnet.

From what I read here on the forum, none of the 1.2 TSI owners have any noise problems from the engine, and the 1.8 TSI crowd wouldn't want to live without a noticeable growl from there.

Hi and welcome,

can see no issue with fitting a blanket to the bonnet if you so wish and I wouldn't worry about the heat thing. My wife's Fabia II TSI does have a blanket on the underside of the bonnet as I assume that sound deadening in a much smaller body-shell is required, therefore obviously there is no concern regard heat in the smaller space of a Fabia engine bay (mind the TSI looks lost in there too :giggle: )

My thinking is a petrol engine would run hotter than a diesel and any further insulation would increase it.

On the other side of the argument all my previous petrol cars had bonnet insulation as standard.

New to VW/Skoda and turbo engines so thats why a doubt remains if OK to add this item.

Previously had Honda's so yes sound is a bit noisier or at least a different tone.

Also if any engine problems a ready made reason to reject any warranty claim due to non standard mods to engine bay???

Someone on this forum has done it already, and, I think, posted photos.

I have no underbonnet insulation on my TSI and no engine noise issues either.

Ignore this. Wrong post in the wrong thread but not sure how to get rid of it...

I fitted the under bonnet blanket on my 1.2 Tsi. Must make some difference to external noise through bonnet but not much difference in cabin. However, it neatens up the appearance under the bonnet a treat and cost less than 4 Starbucks!!

I have fitted it to our 1.2 (a Skoda part supplied by Superskoda). It makes a slight difference to engine noise inside the car, and does better finish the under bonnet area - no "heat" problems noticed ( and it's been mid 30's for the last couple of weeks here).

How timely. I asked SUK about this recently and their answer was as follows:

MY QUESTION: 4. Is it correct that petrol Yetis are not factory-fitted with under-bonnet sound insulation? Please
confirm that my vehicle (currently being built) will NOT be delivered with this and that I can
ask my dealer to order the part (#5L0 863 831).

ŠKODA petrol engine vehicles are not fitted with this insulation; it is normally only on diesels. However, we would not
recommend that the vehicle is modified from the specification with which it left the factory.

After reading topics on the forum, I am not pursuing this. My guess is that it could turn into a 'get out of warranty obligations card' for Skoda in the event of (fingers crossed, no!) an engine malfunction.

Just a thought.

I would like to know their reasoning for that. I can't see that it would be heat because there is acres of room around the 1.2 engine and my temp gauge has never gone above normal no matter what conditions or driving I am doing.

They are clearly nervous as anything about product liability. I asked a load of questions about various things and most came back...'Skoda doesn't recommend...' or 'Skoda won't comment for PL reasons...'

Maybe if it's not fitted correctly and falls down on the engine they wouldn't be to happy. :)

I guess they have to cover themselves against owner modifications.

As we all know, some people are more capable than others...

If someone can't fit the insulating panel with the integrated clips then my guess is they couldn't open the bonnet either - so self policing, Skoda are safe :-)

I'd love to share your optimism.  I know several people that will have a crack at anything ,but should not be allowed to.

If a bonnet lining that wasn't fitted in the factory fell down onto the engine and got caught up I don't think Skoda would want to cover it under warranty.

Hence they cover thier rear end.

I understand you saying it should be OK.

But I am saying why Skoda say no thanks. :)

In a similar posting some time ago a member stated his 1.2 Yeti had arrived new with factory fitted engine sound insulation, although I tend to think this was a one off and a manufacturing slip up.

Personally  I have found no need at all for extra sound insulation.

At times when stationary I have a job to tell if the engine is running and have to glance at dash lights to confirm, even travelling at higher revs the noise is negligible.

Maybe if it's not fitted correctly and falls down on the engine they wouldn't be to happy. :)

I had asked in the context of getting the dealer to supply and fit it pre-delivery!

Is it really necessary to have this fitted to a petrol engine variant? Sound deadening has always been fitted to vehicles with diesel engines because, put simply, they are inherently more noisy than petrol engines. If it is done purely for cosmetic purposes one would have to ask how often you park/drive with your bonnet open :wonder:

I was thinking about it as extra sound deadening. Now I'm not! All I can think about is collecting Ottie next Friday!!!!!!

I'm pleased to hear that! Just enjoy it as Skoda intended ;)

You are absolutely correct.
