Heater windscreen washer nozzles

Featured Replies

I shall be phoning my dealer on Monday to add the electric driver's seat/folding mirrors option to my order - hurrah! - but am unsure about the heated windscreen washer nozzles. I have already ordered the heated windscreen - are heated nozzles part of this package/? Are they standard anyway (the handbook implies not) or do I need to order them separately (and at what cost?)? I'm afraid the salesman at my dealer is not very clued up on options/extras - he merely worked off the infamous UK brochure and seemed unaware that there might be other possibilities, and so I need to be well informed before engaging with him again in a couple of days!

Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

Andrew

I thought they were standard but maybe im wrong ? Perhaps James can enlighten us as to whether they are standard, as the manual seems to suggest that it is indeed standard on some models but does not specifiy which or in what country ??

I seem to remember a thread similar to this which seemed to recommend that you put the correct mix of washer fluid in the bottles to prevent it freezing, but cant remember when that was ? Of course the next question I would have would be does that mean the headlight washers are heated also or not ??

Cmon experts someone must know ??

You can download a full brochure from Skoda's website

FWIW it's a £35 option on the Superb and does not come as part of the heated windscreen option.

There is nothing in the brochure about it tho !

No as it's just the nozzles that are heated, as you correctly say the right concentrate of washer fluid will stop it freezing in the bottle, not sure if the headlight washers are heated - but they are probably not.

After a quick look on spec list there is no mention of it you can only assume it's not fitted (or available as an option) BUT the brochures are notorious for being wrong. :wonder:

Well it is in the manual so im guessing it is fitted to some models just a case of finding out which ones. You would imagine the elegance spec would have it though as logically if it was available it would be on the top models you would think ?

You would of thought so, but they are an option on the Superb Elegance (which is meant to be Skoda's flagship car), so I would assume they would be an option on the Yeti also??

I notice the Superb manual has the same info as the Yeti about them, but is the Superb washers advertised as an option then ? As we are continually seeing, what is available for the car is not always advertised very well :wonder:

i thought they were standard on my old L&K.

Yes it is listed as a £35 option on the Superb, but I notice there is no option for this if you configure a Yeti on the website, so I assume it may not be available in the UK?

You would need to speak to a dealer to clarify this but they will not sell many cars with it fitted if they don't list it as an available option will they.

Well I dont think it would be in the UK manual if some of the UK cars didnt have it ?

Where have all our experts who have actually got the cars and driven in cold conditions gone to tell us ?

But not out in the cold ? :giggle:

Having gone through the last winter in the SM and some quite cold weather in the mountains in southern Europe, I wonder what the fuss is all about. Snehvide does not have heated nozzles. I have never felt the need for them. Living through 20 odd Chicago winters, where -20°C mornings were common in winter, I never experienced any ww washer nozzle problems due to freezing.

If you use a fluid that will stay liquid at temperatures well below what you actually expect, what's the point? You might get some flashing of the alcohol (which is what stops the fluid from freezing) AFTER the fluid has left the nozzle and sprays into the air - but the heated nozzles will not have any effect on this.

Someone has had a brilliant marketing ploy to get another £35 out of the car buyer by creating a problem that does not exist.

Only ww nozzle problem I have encountered has been crud in the nozzle, coming from diluting the concentrate with hard tap water instead of de-min or distilled water. I still use tap water, but every now and again need to give each nozzle a drop of vinegar to slove the problem.

I'm in a similar position where I intend to soon be adding the electric drivers seat - but a point of clarification (and I'd loved to be proved wrong) but I do not believe the mirrors are 'folding' but simply electric, heated with a memory function .

It was one of the questions I asked back in January after the -18c temperatures that froze washers and blew fuses - see http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/148668-heated-washer-jets/

My order states "electric Memory Drivers Seat With Electric Folding Mirrors"

It's not often I like to be proved wrong :D I assume that quote comes from the Skoda system and not the dealer notes 'assuming' they are folding?

If you use a Brita filter jug (or similar) for your drinking water then I recommend filling your washer bottle using filtered water. It prevents limescale in your kettle and has provided me with years of clear washer jets too (in conjunction with washer fluid).

If you go for the electric memory seat option if forces the option of power folding mirrors.

Good idea shrub, we have a water filter that treats the WHOLE house. So my arms (and other areas) still feel soapy when I'm in the shower even when they're not :giggle:

If you want proper soft water you need an ion exchange water softener, the water round here is pretty hard but the softener prevents limescale from forming. Its great for the washer bottle and washing the cars as well.

If you open your service book you should have a sticker with codes on, decode them and you'll know whether you have heated nozzles or not http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

Another source of soft water is the condensate from a condensing clothes dryer - if you have such a gizmo installed.
