BMW 3 Series but ?

Featured Replies

I was on a dual carrage way on the way home with my girlfreind as we where going up the hill i was in the outside lane we had the windows down and i heard a diesel engine looked in my passenger side mirror and spotted a 3 Series BMW. So i pushed the go pedal so i could move infront as it changes to one lane at the top of the hill then there is a 90 deg bend and it changes from 60mph to 40mph but as soon as i started to speed up he floored it. There was nothing in it at all i maybe had half a car lengh after a few 100 yards but he wasnt going to back down as there was a few cars behind him i couldnt even tuck in behind so i was forced to go around a small van just before the corner RARB came into its own :wonder: . Anyway with no intention of turning this into a raceing thread i am running 182bhp and 302ft-lb and now an FMIC so i was woundering what 3 series it was i know it was a derv from the engine sound and im sure he was giveing it the beans again from the engine tone so could have been the 320d?

Sound like it would be a 320D, the 330Ds are much quieter and smoother in sound, as well as being very quick. I think the 320s started around 163 bhp and went up till today’s cars which are around the 180 bhp mark. It probably weighed about 1600kg+ too unless it was old. I had a 320D loaner with 170 ish bhp and it didn’t feel very quick. He was probably just a typical BMW prat (especially if he had bought the car cheap and felt he had something to live up to)

I would have thought it was probably the 177bhp variant of the 2.0 diesel engine. I know that with a good hybrid turbo and suitable map mine is quick than said BMW. But at 26psi unless you have a hybrid turbo i would be worried about the life of my turbo

it was a 59 plate but didnt sound very refineded for a modern derv but i had to give it everything to gain just half a car lengh :wonder:

They do a 320 in several different outputs these days, but I don’t think any of them would be quicker than a modded Furby until you reached higher speeds.

thats what i was thinking from the stats i looked up as the only way to tell them apart is the badges on the back well for me any way

10k miles 2 Rolling Road days and a trip to the Nurburgring and shes running fine i treat it with respect warm up cool down and 5k mile oil changes

I'm sure you do look after your car and all of your measures will help turbo life but that is still huge boost pressures for a standard KKK. Stage 1 hybrids usually run at 1.6 and stage 2 at approx 1.8-9 boost.

I would have thought it you BMW was probably a powerfu 320D varient, he may have been mapped aswell!!!!

A 59 Plate 330D is a very fast piece of kit

And the 335D is just plain silly (in a nice way :) )

ye im sure it wasnt a 330d or if it was he had no idea how to drive it. It just supresed me how matched the BMW was to my car

It sounds like the driver had no idea how to drive ‘full stop’ emoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif

ps I don't think my sig counts in this case :D

lol ye i had noticed it

They probably make more BHP and Torque than manufactures figures anyhow...... I would say thats a good match to a strong PD 130 Remap  output

doubt it was anything but standard tbh, a mapped 59 plate 320d would be over 200bhp

but 200 bhp @ 1550 kgs, maybe interesting

wish i had seen the badge more out of intrest than anything

I've wiped the floor with several 320D's?

I've wiped the floor with several 320D's?

massively depends on the age of the 320d, outputs vary from around 130bhp to 180bhp with several steps in between

Yup ages, and just different specs. Could have two identical looking 320's with different out puts. Rear wheel drive, same or more power, I'm pretty sure which I'd put my money on :)

Matt

my dads octy mk1 pd170 beats 320's easily and a mapped fabia is quicker than the octavia to 100mph thats for sure, id say it was a 330 tbh.

a poorly driven 330d ?

anything's possible, but we're talking flooring in a straight line whilst already moving. surely it would have to be very poorly driven?

given the age, I reckon a standard 320d is right; smidge more power but less torque than a mapped PD130 and it was slower, but not massively so

:)

a poorly driven 330d ?

I wonder if there's a 3-series driver on a BMW forum somewhere having a rant about a Fabia driver hogging the overtaking lane of a dual carriageway..... :giggle:

would have been a 320d

when mine was 194bhp it got whooooped by a 330d LOL
