fabia vrs to 225bhp

Featured Replies

hi guys,

Im trying to get together a complete list of requirements to get a Fabia VRS to 225 bhp. I'm well into tuned saabs and would like to get a VRS as an everyday driver but you know how it is once the tuning bug bites. The point im at now is gathering info and making sure i get the correct base model for tuning. TOp of list is VRS, has to be something small and reliable.

So a realistic list (excluding nice to have's or suspension/brakes at the moment.

pd160 intake = £100?

single mass flywheel and clutch = £1000

exhaust? a requirement or nice to have

FMIC = was considering universal route and plumbing in as required

Turbo = can stock be hybridised? no idea on a diesel?

remap = £400

i wanna try avoid different injectors or w inj

any comments?

thanks

clutch helix and smf from mardigras motorsport £880

turbo from turbo dynamics stage 2 pd150 from a golf £1000

intercooler from forge £550-600

custom map £400

thats ALL you need....

anything else is up to yourself

bigger air intake

free flowing exhaust

suspension

better brakes

on parts mines is at £6-7k

IMO start with an Ibiza FR. Reason for choosing an Ibiza would be the suspension tends to work OK out of the box. Fabia VRS's doesn't IMO. Also, if you can find a late facelift, they come with Cupra style bumpers and a BLT engine and 17" alloys. (awaits flaming... )

Getting a proper 225 BHP will require a lot of work.

Seat sport or Forge FMIC including piping - £500-£600

TD stage 2 turbo outright purchase - £1200

Seat PD160 intake - £85

Decat downpipe - £180 (this is an utter p*ss take IMO. A bent bit of pipe with a flexi in it. Should be able to get one for under £100).

Exhaust (Milltek or Blue Flame - £300

Remap - £400

Jabbasport or Whiteline Rear ARB - £150-£220

Depending on what you ask out of the remapping, you may add single mass flywheel and clutch to that lot - £1000 ish fitted. Or you can limit torque and see how the standard kit lasts.

Even with this lot bolted to your car you may still not hit 225BHP.

Cheers for the qiock replies guys,

ok - whats the rationalle getting forge or seat sport intercooler? just ease of fitting and no chopping?

turbo upgrade is the most costly - does anyone move away from the stock fitting items?

as a comparison -how does a well set up 225bhp vrs fare against other common hot hatches from 30mph up? say CTR/ITR, 330, focus st? corsa vxr?

cheers

Straight line it'l wipe the floor with CTR's and VXR Corsa's all day long. Mine, with just a remap, stays with them and im only at 180bhp & 305ftlb.

ST's, might be more of a close call, 330 I have no idea!

CTR yes, ITR and VXR yes but 330 and Focus ST? Wrong league of car to compare against IMO. You are gonna need a serious amount of HP to embarrass one of these!

I had a 3.0 Z4 a year back and thought its performance was pants to be honest

230bhp in the 330i. Power to weight would be on your side though, if you were 225bhp so i'd say it would be close.

this is the route i want to take so far i have done

PD160 intake

piper cross filter

celtic remap 182bhp 302ft-lb (did this to see what weak points there where within the std setup)

eibach lowering springs

strut brace

RARB

Audi TT 312mm brakes

custom FMIC

total spend £1300

next to do

clutch

not sure on fly wheel yet need to research it more

PD150 hybrid turbo

but as it stands its a very nippy car 1/4 mile was 14.9 sec which is quicker than std astra vxr's which ran 15.2sec. mid range is dam good but you deff need all the above handeling mods IMO makes it a much better drive and safer.

i have been lucky getting alot of the above parts very cheap or in group buys but im sure the next stage is going to cost me £2000 ish for parts and labour

ive read so many issue with the DMF after tuning - im not sure if its worth chancing it on an exp upgrade clutch then having to get a new DMF anyway? dunno what they cost?

If you're doing the clutch, you may as well go single mass to avoid any hassle.

You can sell your "very good condition" DMF on the spares market for good money, as others will sure break over time. :D

i seen the ibiza mentioned above, could the 100 bhp version be tuned using all the same hardware to make same figures as the 130 bhp version?

Jabbasport or Whiteline Rear ARB - £150-£220

wow, i didnt know this add-on affected your bhp output!

I eat ST's all day long. Really with about 3k- 3.5 you'll see 220. Spend a bit more and you'll get 240. After that, its pure cash.

I run the devils own injection kit and saw a straight gain of 10bhp but a loss of torque. Jabba tweaked my map and I'm running just over 240bhp

Did you have any luck with that EGR delete pipe you said you were making?

Yeah got it all sorted. Should have a FMIC here tomorrow or Tuesday for a custom build :)

Well with 210-230bhp (not rr'd) i can wipe ctr's, remapped corsa vxr's

Got quicker times down the quarter than a 225 megane and even a new focus rs

Had a play with a caymen s and it didnt pull away much! Before anyone says im

Talkin b.s this was even admitted at the next pump station by the porsche driver my car was quick ;) 40mph > 80mph where the fabia rules

How come you haven't had it rr'd? You not running a custom map?

Yeah custom richard washbrook map with egr delete,

He has dealers for him throughout the uk. As he's away down south and im in scotland i had to get it done via ads in preston which didnt have a rr

A decat isnt needed for 225bhp, im pretty sure there was people on here running nearer 240 on totally standard exhaust system. And the arb isnt NEEDED to get 225bhp, its something that would help with the power. Although id put some 312`s above a rarb.

I`m planning it this way;

Seat sport FMIC/Forge piping £480

Sachs Clutch £650 I got a near new one for £300

Hybrid 150/Fitting/Mapping £1000

£1780. Then the 312`s cost £170, Coilovers were £250 (used), PD160 was £40, i also have a scorpion (which im pretty sure isnt needed) £290. So all in all, £2530 plus labour. Not too bad, just gotta bargain hunt.

Obviously in the real world, on top of this to cope with the pwoer youll need brakes, suspension, probs SMF too eventually. But it doesnt cost a fortune.

Hummmm, parkers book the CTR .2 of a second quicker then the ST, so im pretty sure it`d not be such a big challenge. In fact, IIRC a Hybrid 130 running around 200bhp (chrisw_vrs) can keep with one, so a 150 hybrid should pull slightly. However, you have got to remember, play with them in your own court. Dont try beating things off the lights, its pointless, youll just spin the wheels and look a pleb, its 30mph > the fabia shines.

Matt

Yeah even bigger air intake isnt needed as diesels run on excess air anyways

Exhaust is optional, i dont have a decat but instead i have a milltek celi 100 cat

Brake upgrade helps so you dont die and suspension helps too so you dont roll over

I like this thread :) after much thought I think i'm going to be aiming for this sort of power within the next year or so. Got brakes, shortly doing FMIC build, RARB will be on its way (not touching the ride height just yet) and my clutch is on it's way out so need a new clutch anyway

Ctr.....depends really. Manny are modified with a jrsc and easily put out 300bhp- my Jdm ctr was supercharged and could keep up with my mates evo 6.
