EGR Problem

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been having problems with my EGR system (Fabia 1.4 16V). First, the engine management (MIL) light came on. Took it to the garage and they said the EGR valve needed replacement. After that, it came back on a few days later, went back to the garage and they replaced the EGR pipe. 6 months later and the light is on again. Fault is 'EGR flow insufficient'. I took it to the garage again, as I thought the valve might be faulty and should be covered by warranty, but apparently thats working fine.

I'm loath to spend any more money on it. So a few questions:

1. How does the ECU detect low EGR flow? is there a flowsensor somewhere, or is this done via emission value from the lambda sensor?

2. Is it easy to clean the EGR pipe myself? Looks like is awkward to get to - anyone done it themselves?

3. Does EGR really make any difference to performance, reliabilty etc?

If anyone can help, it would be most appreciated...

PS - Why does searching the forum for 'EGR' bring up no results???

Many thanks!

Mark

'EGR' doesn't have enough charachters in it to perform a search. I think that 'EGR valve' would work. Or try '16786' which is a fault code for and EGR problem but I think that is 'excessive flow'. It shoud be a similar no eg '16785'.

Have you tried cleaning out the throttle body using Carb cleaner?

Mine started to "stick" when i had my vRS.........so i ripped it out :thumbup:

That's slightly more than is needed. MoggyTech has done a nice write-up somewhere involving sticking a golf-tee in the rubber hose that operates the valve and that does the job 100% without any spanner-work.

JabbaSport make a nice kit which they supposedly supply fitted for £50 but as no-one ever calls me back when I try to book my car in to get it done I'm not sure if it's true or not!

The reason EGR returns nothing in a search is (I think) that the search term is too short. The search on here is very poorly implemented compared to other forums.

I think the EGR is tested using the MAP sensor, so it might be a dirty MAP sensor, or a dirty throttle body, any driving problems?

Best way to search this forum is to use Google.

Type - site:briskoda.net followed by your search query which in this case is egr so the out come would be site:briskoda.net egr
