First couple of hundred miles in the new Yeti

Featured Replies

Well, after a long wait it finally arrived!

First impressions - the dark Storm Blue metallic paint with the cream Gobi leather interior looks very, very good. I know a lot of people like the lighter metallics, but this combination works for me. I kept the standard black roof rails and it looks nicely understated in a good way. The seats are very comfortable, and general visibility is good. No squeaks or rattles - everything seems solidly screwed together, and no buzzes or rattles from the speakers, even when turned up loud. The "SoundSystem" audio sounds great (but I'm no audiophile) and has some neat EQ options for voice versus music.

I ordered the spare wheel - dealer said this would be a "space saver", but it's an almost full-size 195/60 Conti PremiumContact on a 16-inch steel rim (with a big yellow 50-mph restriction sticker on it). Jack, tools and locking wheel nuts all fitted. Couple of nets fitted in the boot, but no semi-circular plastic bottle-holder thingy. No carton of spare oil either (as some have reported getting) - maybe this is just supplied by some dealers? Went for the rough-road pack, and indeed have the plastic protective film on the wheelarches.

The factory-fit textile mats are a bit crap to be honest, so I think I'll be getting some of the ones with the Yeti logo on from a dealer fairly soon. Likewise, will be purchasing some mudflaps and fitting those myself.

Engine seems a bit tight so far, and doesn't sound as nice as my old mk 1 Octy VRS, but I hope it will loosen up a bit with use. The suspension and handling are fantastic - quiet, smooth and unruffled on the motorway, but with the cornering gusto of a hot hatch on the B-roads.

I bought mine through DriveTheDeal, as they offered a discount that no local dealer could match. Communication with the dealer was minimal, but reasonably efficient. Everything was done via email, and when I picked the car up I just paid the balance on my debit card. The handover was fairly brief - checked the car, signed the forms, paid the money, then got the keys. No explanations or walkthroughs of the car's features :-) I deliberately avoided a part-ex or any dealer-fit options so as to keep the process as simple as possible, and went to the dealer to pick it up in person (cost me a £30 rail fare and a couple of hours travelling - no big deal really).

All in all, very happy so far!
