hi from kent-soon to be skoda owner help needed!

Featured Replies

hello to everyone on here!

Looking to purchase a fabia vrs to replace my corsa c20xe, which is a fantastic, but sadly dated car, and with all these new much fater smalled turbo charged hot hatches being released, needs to be replaced

I have had a small look into fabias but have no real clue about them,

my main concern is the price of them, i am an apprentic sprayer/panel beater, so i am on crap money.

So body work obviously isnt an issue, but i was looking to spend around 3.5/3k (Please dont give me the oh you will never find a good one for that, i am aware)

There seem to be a few alright ones floating about just with high milage.

I am put off by this becuase - i am a vauxhall man, most vaux engine are crap after about 80k

but again it is a diesel, IF well maintained they are bullet proof, had an ibiza tdi sport at work the other day on 160k, my boss said this wasnt a problem and it ran like new.

any common faults to look out for? i know about the leaky door etc, but just need some good advice

thanks alot all :)

Alternative you could look at a mk1 Octy TDI 130 bhp , same engine size as the Fabia , and 6 speed gear box , so the opportunity to tune up in the same way as a Fabia . They are rare , would be a 2003 / 2004 model the only octy that had the 6 speed gears , but most look for the fabia , ie VRS , when a good quality Octy would be better price as its a sheep itn wolves clothing if you get the idea .

I agree, plus you're more likely to get a Mk1 Octy 130 TDI at that kind of price. The Fabia with it's "Hot Hatch" image has (unfortunately for buyers) kept a lot of value so you'll be lucky to find any cheap examples anywhere.

not really after a cheap example as such, i do belive in the get what you pay for, unless from a family member i find it unlikley to get some fantastic 70k 53 plate for 3k, i was more wondering how well; they comped with miles, becuause i have no problem with buying a 110k miles one as long as it would still perform well etc and not be under huge strain once i started modding.

My boss said it would be fine and the best way to grab a bargin becuase people are put off by high milage becuase people are still much in the petrol engine mind set. generally being no matter how well looked after the engines are after 100k they will still be tired and crap

chicken eye brow, what does your car look like? i am from tonbridge!

thanks all, oh and cheers for the quick responses guys ;)

The experts will reply soon , but an unmodded TDI will easily go the 200k mark , if previous good service . When its been moded then , there is all the extra bits that are needed to take the uprated power and again service history service history as they say .

Pretty standard silver Mk1 Octavia VRS. It's a little bit lower than usual and has a couple of Briskoda stickers in the rear quarter panel windows

not using it much any more as it has done spaceship miles now and bits are starting to go wrong with it

Hi and welcome aboard.
