Easiest is to fit these to your Fog lights:

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/led-fog-light-bulbs-for-cars/

Yes but it then states:-

Note that most of these are not road legal and should be used for off-road and show use only.

(So does that mean if you are stopped they could be deemed as illegal, or as you are using them as DRL's would they even bother to check ?)

They are DRL's so doubt youll be stopped

They certainly arnt going to dazzle anyone and the new Fabia vRS has them in the fog lights as standard

I've ordered the Fabia Estate 1.2 TSI DSG in Elegance spec and have heard that these have DRL's but you have to turn them on through a switch in the glove box, so will they be the same as the vRS?

The Elegance spec has DRL`s fitted as standard but the switch to activate them is in the bottom of the fuse box situated by the drivers right knee........You`ll find that a lot of dealers and mechanics dont know how to turn them on  ..would imagine they are the same as fitted to the vrs

i read in the auto express that jan 2010 new cars must have day runing lights on i think i looked by the panel by the steering and in side there is a socket for the swicth

but now swicth i was going to ask my dealer this week about it

You have DRL/sidelight bulbs next to the fog lights on the new Fabia...as on the Octavia..BUT the vRS has round fog lights like the Mk1 Fabia vRS

I would replace this bulb with some LED's

Job done!!

Is your Fabia a face lift model? If not, there are some good aftermarket kits. Get a quality one with an auto dimming or auto off kit, if you buy some that doesn't have it I'm sure you can buy them separate.

Keep them legal, think this is the next thing the police will be jumping on like they did with fog lights years ago.

Our Elegance was delivered with two options of DRL switched on; the ones in the fogs and the front and rear sidelights :wonder: Nipped it back to the dealer when I realised the issue; quick uncheck of a box on the VAGCOM and now just have the DRL in the fogs switched on

I was reading in the manual something about this - depends on what sort of foglights you have fitted or suchlike - your DRL's might be the normal dipped bean with rear+numberplate lights on, or like you pic will be next to the foglight in the front and only them (nothing on at the rear).

However as I read it, if you have the front cornering lights then if you switch on the DRL's then the front cornering won't work.

Hi runboy,

our Fab has obviously the front fogs with the built in but separate DRL (front only), she is also optioned with Corner Fog. Both work as required; DRL go out on selection of the lights (side or dipped beam) and corner fog becomes active within it's operating parameters of up to 24mph and turning, indicating or reversing.

Regards,

TP

From what i read i thought DRLs have to turn off when the dipped or full beams are turned on just wondering how say the oct vrs and audis get away with keeping there led's on all the time.

Ah I see, so DRL's go out when you turn the lights on. Learn something new every day!

Not necessarily. The Fabia vRS uses the foglight DRL's as sidelights too so they are on all the time, even when the dipped beam is on, although at a reduced brightness.

They just dim them. And Audi's like the current A4 with xenons which have them through the middle of the main light unit also dim when indicators are turned on.

This could be a Mastermind subject in itself!

  • 2 weeks later...

My Elegnace turns them off once the sidelights are turned on, although they are actually brighter than the sidelights!

Odd but true (found out when I went out late last night and thought I had the sidelights on then checked the light switch and realised it was the DRLs). Says in the manual where the switch is and that you have to turn it on yourslef as they dont come enabled from the factory.
