A few niggles I need help with please.

Featured Replies

Hi, as I said there has been a few problems popping up that I could use some advice on please.

1. As I am driving sometimes I can hear the rear doors lock then unlock, but the pin never moves.

2. When I was on the way to work the otherday I left the car running for about 30 seconds and it started beeping, the water/engine temp warning light came on. I turned it off and back on again and it did the same thing. So I opened the bonnet and checked the water and it was fine. Tried it again and it didn't happen. I have also had some funny revving as well but this is all from cold. Not there when warm. I think the light may have been down to the engine being too cold? Does the vRS warn you of that?

3. My rear license plate bulbs both have gone at the same time. I found it bizarre they went together. Worried it could be a leak? With regards to lights... Will this work in a vRS? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SKODA-OCTAVIA-24-LED-BULB-WHITE-interior-dome-light-/170406570703?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27ad05eacf and can these be used in the door interior lights as well? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380187583813&_trksid=p2759.l1259

Thanks,

Damian.

Take the plastic trim off the boot lid and make sure the rear washer pipe hasn't popped off the washer motor. If it has been leaking fluid then it could be why the numberplate lights have blown. If it has got into the locking mechanism as well it may be causing a short which is why your locks are working occasionally while you're driving.

Point two sounds like your coolant temperature sensor is on its way out.

If you need to replace the numberplate lights be aware that the screws may be very corroded so you will either need an impact driver to remove them or take it to a garage and let them worry about it

Or just get at them from inside when you take the plastic panel off

How much do these cost?

About £25 for a genuine VAG one I think.

Not to bad, are they easy to instal yourself?

Yes shouldn't take more than half an hour, do a search on here. The only tricky thing really is making sure you stick the new sensor and O-ring in quickly before you lose coolant as you have to stick it straight into a coolant pipe when you take the old one out.

Went and spoke to the guys at the Skoda breakers and asked if they had any of the coolant sensors in. He seemed to think the sensor was the whole water bell and shouldn't need to be replaced as it is fixed in place. Do you have the part number for it off by hand?

As for the lights, they are now fixed and you where right, the washer pipe had popped off so I think that was the cause even though my farther is more than adement it wasn't haha.

Thatll be fine. The beeping - has the coolant level dropped low? Sometimes this can be a fault with the sensor within the header tank, it can sometimes be fixed if the pins are corroded in anyway with a few scrapes of a clean flat headed screwdriver on the internal prongs.

Cheap toothbrushes are perfect for that, but use a new one and then keep it away from your teeth afterwards :)

I think it is something todo with the cold? It was a cold night last night and dismorning it happened and when it first arrived it had been a very chilly night. Soon as I turn the car off and on again it goes away. It feels cold again tonight so I will check in the morning but can the cold do anything to the sensors?

yes, clean the bubbles of the "prong" sensors in the coolant expansion tank.

On a relevant topic and not wishing to hijack this thread, I have had the water pump and thermostat changed on my 1.9TDi, but there is no movement in the coolant header tank (I think that's what you call the bit where you top up the water) and it has now started leaking from around the thermostat housing - any ideas?
