Unreliable

Featured Replies

My car let me down today, I have had to replace the battery (the car is 4 years old) Do Skoda fit cheap batteries as the Honda's I have had in the past (one that was 6 years old) never required a battery and was still going strong when I sold it.

There are so many different conditions that can directly and indirectly affect a battery's life it it impossible to say.

It is worth noting that there are only a handful of manufacturers globally that manufacture the cells that are used in all batteries that I doubt quality will vary too much.

I can't see Skoda sourcing different batteries than the rest of the VAG group.

I suspect last years very cold winter may have shortened the life of many a car battery...

What make was the battery? I know VAG fit Varta batteries on many cars and you can't get much better than a Varta.

It was an Akuma, I have put a Lion battery in it now from Euro Car Parts. It says it has a lifetime guarantime of the battery, any idea how long this maybe?

thanks.

Roar !!!

Yeah, the cold winter killed the battery in SWMBO's car, which up to then had got past its eight birthday without incident...

Yep, it killed the battery in my Dad's Elegance as well - though he only does about... 1200 miles (yes, twelve hundred) a year now as he is retired

Varta battery in my Octy I is seven years old, still going strong.

I had one of these in and changed it for a Bosch Silver (Varta IIRC) as it started to die at the beginning of the winter.

The Bosch is a little larger, but has a much higher capacity and was a lot heavier.

Certainly a good move.

Last winter won't have helped as I have just changed a few batteries for friends due to them starting to fail now the nights come in and lights and wipers are needed on.
