Cold starting getting a bit worse!

Featured Replies

The way my car starts up first thing in the morning is getting a little bit worse now. First of all, it was just being a bit lethargic, but now as well as the lethargy, when it kicks in, it feels a lot harsher, like a big bang is going on somewhere inside the engine. Not sure what it could be though - I'm wondering if maybe the automatic fuel pump action initialised when the ignition is turned, is malfunctioning a little bit. :(

Once its running, its kind of normal, as normal as a cold diesel is until it gets chattering away. (i.e slow as ****) :D

sounds like you need new glowplugs

Does to me also as they remain on to help with diesel knock after start up.

Get them checked out!

Jason, have you had the battery checked? It's quick and easy to have done at any tyre centre and should be free too.

glowplugs it is then. I'm sure the battery is well charged up, and OK, as I never really do short journeys. :D

I was waiting for someone to say I needed new spark plugs.

I would have said exactly the same thing until my battery died on Christmas Eve. :( I'd done over 100 miles every day from Monday to Thursday that week and battery was still very flat on the Friday.

Like you I don't really do short journeys. Only sign of impending flat battery was slightly sluggish starting for the weeks beforehand.

Battery might still be worth checking out...
