dilemma's

Featured Replies

Well my fisrt dilemma is that with another addition to my family (number 3) im wondering if any of you have 3 kids and can still fit everything into your octy vrs like, 2 car seats a double buggy and 12 year old in the middle seat, wife in the boot and all the other junk that comes along with family life?

Or do I need to start looking at the dreaded mpv’s?? :'(

Second dilemma that comes along is that if I do need to go down the mpv route and have to sell my beloved car (currently thinking about selling a kidney at this point), then what the hell is it worth?

It’s a de-stickered 52 plate wrc, number 34, with all usual wrc spec.

Extra’s are: carbonio air intake, kw v1 coilovers, full polybushs all round, revo with sps3 switch, milotec b pillars, milotec rear diffuser, r32 front arb, s3 upper & lower braces.

I look forward to your opinions, comments and help! :)

don't be silly - keep it and cut down on the junk and other crap - a people carrier won't hold any more stuff

Good plan, It would be cheaper and would save the V-Power lol

any savings will be wiped out by the money you'll lose when trading in/switching car - KEEP IT!

I hope this helps, as we have both a VRS and a Zafira. Boot footprint wise, the VRS seems bigger, but the Zaf allows more things to be stacked up due to the height difference. Interior space wise, both cars would really struggle to get three child seats in the back, where at least one was a group 1 or 2 seat, which are typically larger/bulkier. The main difference for us is that the Zaf allows two extra seats to be used from the boot area, which makes travelling with 3-4 kids suddenly quite practical. Obviously by setting the car up that way you end up with very little boot space, so you'd probably need a roof box to compensate.

Savings wise, if you buy sensibly (e.g. a Zaf CDTI), you will get much better mpg and lower tax and insurance. So mileage dependant, there are fairly large annual savings to be had (e.g. £1000+). Downside is that you will not get a decent Zaf CDTI for the kind of price you'd probably get for your VRS, so it depends a bit on whether you have some cash to add to the sale value you get.

good luck

Keep the VRS. No way would I put my kids in the Zafira extra rear seats. 5th Gear recently did a test on rear impact to an MPV with crash test dummys in the extra rear seats SCARY!

But if you need to use the 7 seats, then most/all MPVs with that function are providing less protection for the rear 2 seats. From memory wasn't the risk even greater for adults using the rear two seats?

Most older cars are less safe than modern cars due to increased safety requirements, but it doesn't stop us from owning older cars. I thought the car show feature on this was just sensationalising a risk that is pretty obvious when you think about it.

If the chappie has 3 kids then i don't see that he has too many options, except for leaving one of them or the wife at home wheenver they go out, so not sure how keeping the VRS is a practical option :'(

Is there anyone on the forum who has successfully has 3 child seats (including at least one group 1 seat) in the back of their Octy without compromising safety?

i have a 2yr old, 5yr old and a 7 yr old. I just put the baby in the middle and others either side, abit tight to buckle up but still have enough room, we went to brid last wknd and fit pram , towels spare clothes spare shoes allsorts. i wouldn't even think of getting a people carrier unless i needed an extra seat. KEEP THE VRS if get rid u will regret it

I do find the VRS a bit small with one car seat and a 12 year old is enough room for them without being cramped and space for their toys etc.. another seat would definately be a no no..

I had a 54 plate vectra before my vrs and the wmount of room was awsome over the vrs kinda regreted it after changing but make do.

here my vectra bought it standard LS spec added sri/gsi stuff vxr spoiler 345mm brakes and irmscher 20'' evo stars tinted windows etc..loved the car but wanted more power should have just bought a 2.2 or a cdti 150.

i sold it to a garage for 3300 just to get the yellow vrs i have now. mistake if i am honest but i like my vrs

Very tidy looking Vectra  That must have been hard to part with.

When i sold my Audi i was either going to get a Vectra GSI 3.2 or the VRS. VRS is the one i chose, and haven't regreted it, mainly due to the better fuel economy and slightly lower prices, but other than that there was little in it for me.

I wouldn't go the Vectra route if its a hatch as the rear legroom is less than the VRS and the door opening is narrower, my dad tested this theory out for me recently just before I sold my old Vectra C last week lol, estates are far more practical plus they have have the longer wheelbase for more legroom.

Main thing really to consider is the size of the child seats, and whether or not you do loads of long journeys for the older child to be uncomfortable wedged between 2 child seats..

I've never seen a car look decent on those wheels, but yours has just changed that, looks awesome.

I have to disagree mate i now have the wee ones feet in my back. she was alot further back when i had the vectra. so now shes on the other side lol.
