Advice to Improve Favorit Estate

Featured Replies

Any adivice to carry out simple improvements/upgrades to my M reg Favorit LXie Flairline Est - which will now be my daily drive for work.

10500 miles, still with original 15 year old 'Matador' tyres, Im sure the engine is a 136 B type.

I had an M reg GLXie Flairline estate at 34k miles but sold it as I thought it was too extravagant with the alloys, seats and sunroof (leaking) and delaminating paint but the engine was tight, quiet and powerful - great. Bought an LXie Flairline est in immaculate nick thinking the engine would be the same - but its not. Had tappits adjusted but is gutless and more rattly compared to the GLXie motor.

What simple things can I do to improve the performance of the engine?

I am looking to change the tyres today for 165's uniroyal or similar. What can I do to improve the handling further?

Thanks

just the usual.

plugs, air filter, oil change, fuel filter etc.

also try disconnecting the battery for an hour or so to reset the ecu.

when you say performance do you mean power or economy?? if you're after big power i think you've picked the wrong car tbh

Just to get the same performance as my previous the GLXie motor. Must be a different engine in the GLXie rather than the LXie.

The e at the end signifies the different engines. There is the 135 and 136, the 136 is the better of the two. If you are experiencing poor performance then I guess the first thing to look at is all the usual stuff mentioned by bebop.

If there is more noise from the engine after setting the valve clearances, they may have been done incorrectly. This thread may help http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/90342-the-proud-owner-of-a-tractor/ particularly post #10 by Richard Black.

I would also look at cleaning the throttle body (do this before putting in the new air filter and give the box a good wipe out). I would also stick some redex in the petrol.

Be careful with the tyres, old tyres even if appearing to be in good condition with good tread can have the tread separate from the main bit of the tyre at high speed. Not much fun in the fast lane of the motorway. You could probably get away with slightly wider tyres.

As for handling an easy cheap mod is to bolt in a front strut brace from a felicia. You just undo 4 nuts, put the brace on, then do the nuts back up, simples.
