hill hold

Featured Replies

According to my manual (addition 5/2009), my Octavia 1.6 cr has a hill hold on the ESP. Up to now, I didn't feel any hill hold working on my car. Even today, starting on a steep hill of 23%, there was no 'magic hand' holding my car as I went with my foot from the break pedal on the accelerator, and yes the door was closed. Is it possible that I have no hill hold on my ESP (manual not correct), or should my hill hold be activated (which it wouldn't be then, up to now)? I'm puzzled, or am I just plain stupid (not doing the right thing, or not feeling the hill hold)?

Sure it's not refering to the DSG model?

As I've never known a manual car have hill hold.

The Scout has hill hold on a manual gearbox - its just a delayed de-pressurisation of the brake, once you remove your foot from the pedal. If the hill was 23% it should work if present.

Les.

I thought the same on my 2010 1.6 CR Elegance Octy (Manual gearbox), it had a delay on the brakes releasing - but when trying this out I rolled back..

Will have to check the manual and the sales stuff, I know it doesn't have it - but would be interested in if it "should" have it.

My manual Citroen Grand Picasso has Hill Hold...... very good feature.

On a hill of less than23%, briefly release the brake, and press it a second time. It will then stay on for a few seconds. Works on a manual scout.

My 2007 manual L&K has hill hold control. If you've tried to pull off on any reasonable gradient, you'd know if HHC was working or not.

Brilliant feature.

I have autohold on my Passat which works all the time when turned on - ie, on any slope and permanently engages until you pull away. It's the best feature ever, is really smooth and I'm really impressed with it. I'd love to see it on all cars, not just those with electronic button style hand brakes - no more awkward hill starts juggling the handbrake/clutch/accelerator.

No need for a second push on my car. It just works so long as the gradient is over a certain threshold.

Ditto for us

From the Octavia manual

Uphill-Start off-Assist*

The uphill-start off-assist makes it much easier to start off on steep hills. The system

assists a start off by holding the brake pressure produced by the brake pedal actuation

for approx. 2 seconds after releasing the brake pedal. The driver can therefore

move his foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal and start off on the

slope, without having to actuate the handbrake. The brake pressure drops gradually

the more you operate the accelerator pedal. If the vehicle does not start off within

2 seconds, it starts to roll back.

The uphill-start off-assist is active in the event of a 5% slope, if the vehicle door is

closed. It is always active on slopes when in forward or reverse start off. When

driving downhill, it is inactive.

Sorry, should have been clearer:

It works if the gradient is steeper than a certain threshold, but you can force it to activate on shallower gradients by a second push.

PR codes are the only way to be 100% sure, give your dealer a bell or pm me your chassis number and they can check for you.
