Flat Battery

Featured Replies

just come back from rhodes for a couple of weeks, and when i got to my vrs i could not get in useing the remote, had to use the key manually, turns out the battery had run flat after a couple of weeks of standing. i dont know what caused it, but i am pretty certain i switched everything off. my main problem was i could not get into the boot with my suitcases, how do you get into the boot manually when all the electrics are dead ?

Dont have the manual to hand but I think you drop the back seats, climb in and lift/pull a flap under/in front of the boot catch and push something. Apols not exactly detailed!

A colleague of mine had the exact same issue on his new (ish) Seat Boccanegra

AFAIK he's been too and fro the dealers, they have recharged the battery, replaced the battery (and last I heard) they had flashed the ECU with an upgrade to sort out "unknown power issues".

If it's a new battery and there is no reason for it's discharge (extreme cold, lights left on, etc), I'd take it back to the dealers for a diagnostics.

Hope you get it sorted - nothing worse than having to sort out dead battery issues first thing in a morning mate.

yeah, had the car a couple of months, never had a flat battery as it is used on a daily basis, not sure if i left anything on, pretty certain i did'nt, although i have relpaced the factory fit hu, with a pioneer unit, dont know if that had anything to do with it, i would'nt have thought so though, as some batterys can 'give up' at anytime

Thats the BCM flash, can bus isnt going to sleep and drains the battery.

if i had this problem, how long would it take to flatten the battery ?

Easy in a couple of weeks

However that info is for the SEAT Ibiza, different system to the Octavia although there was a similar flash for the MK2 Leon so its worth looking into.

Is it the original battery? Mines recently died on a 56 plate, think the very harsh winter last year killed it off. I suggest you get the battery recharged and tested.

not sure if its the orignal battery, as i have only had the car since june, but the batterys no older than 3 years old, as it is a 57 plate

my car would never be left for 2 weeks without being driven, so dont if that would be the problem, like i said its used daily with no problems but winters not here yet...... the battery was as flat as a pancake this morning at manchester airport, the rac came out got me going, i am hoping that the 100 mile or so journey backe to my home in leicestershire has charged it up enough not to give me any more problems

Batteries don't last forever, plus you mention you have only had the car since June, do you know the history of the car. If a car isn't used daily, the battery will discharge to a low level, the battery cells do not take too kindly to being discharged to this level and then recharged and end up blowing.

its got a full skoda service history, the car was on 57k , so i would have thought it would have been used every day, as it would be averaging nearly 500 mile a week to get to 57k in less than 2 and a half years, ive done nearly 4k in 12 weeks, with no problems until now, so i am hoping its just the fact its been left for an unsually long period of time for 'this car' 2 weeks, for the battery to go dead, but if there is a fault i am sure i will find out soon, with winter coming........
