First Service - 10400 miles

Featured Replies

Hi folks

My YETI has just had his first service performed today, 10,400 miles in, after five months of delighted transport, during which he hasn't needed a single drop of oil from me.

It cost £117 including VAT, where the actual service was £35 and the 4.3l of oil was about £55!! The other bits were filters and the like.

I'd asked for a Courtesy Car since getting to Swansea is a round trip of about 90 miles from up this particular hill where I live, BUT, when I got there I found that not only had a forgotten my insurance details (doh!) I had also left my driver's licence at home, too (double DOH!).

I was late, too, in getting there because every tractor in Powys was on the road dropping dirty great dollops of dung to drive over.

Jeff the service manager had initially offered to have it done for me by 3pm (I'd arrived at 10), but when we realised that a Courtesy Car was a non-starter (!) he said hye'd try to bring it forward to 1pm.

OK, I thought, good of him, and set off across the road to pod about the plants at the garden centre, drink coffee, and wait... ... ... ...

My phone rang at 2 minutes gone 12 - "Car's ready, Mr Cooper" he said. And it was - not only done, but washed thoroughly outside, and valeted inside almost to showroom standard too, smelling very pleasant. Those who attended the Welsh Yeti Adventure led by Graham will know that Freshacre's Yeti is NOT the cleanest car in the village, either out OR in, so this cleaning would've been a labour and a half!!

The final tick of gratitude from me happened after I'd paid, and was about to leave, when Andy the Sales Manager spotted me, came across with his hand out and said "Hello George, how's that Yeti?". He'd only met me back at the end of February to do the test drive and clinch the deal, and then 8 weeks later to initiate the handover which was completed by one of the other chaps. I was well impressed that he'd remembered. Top man. (Busy organising the Joiner's car for him!!).

All in all a big thumbs up from me for this routine exercise made very special by their attitude. The brakes seem tighter, the car smoother, and it did 52mpg on the return journey.

Cheers, Sinclair!

Nice one George, and I'm pleased to see the "Jack's" let you come home as well.

Please check the oil level on the dip stick for me.

With 4.3 liters, it may not be up to the full mark, but just in the cross-hatched OK level.

Yes, my DIY oil change took more like 4.7 - 4.8 litres.

Isn't the mileage a bit low for needing a first service? My service indicator looks like the car will need its first service at about 20k miles. That's why I did the DIY oil and filter change at about 11k miles.

Congrats George, nice to see there is still some traditional good customer service around

£117 seems very reasonable to me - I bet the local prices around North London arent quite so attractive. :dull:

Always nice to hear that there are some good dealers around too but as others have said - isnt the mileage a little low or didnt you wait for the variable service prompt before having it done?

4.3 litres, filled to the top of the marker.

10000 miles as planned with the dealer given that my annual mileage was liable to be well over 24000. I seem to recall that there are two servicing schedules that you can go for. I thought that it was decent value for money.

The other interesting thing is the tyre wear - down to 3.0mm LF, 3.5mm RF and 4.0 rear tyres both. I suspect this reflects my driving, er, style.

What tyres are on your SM out of interest?

Variable can do 20k miles between servicing dependant on driving environment and style but Ive never liked the idea of that personally and always done annual fixed servicing which for me will be around 8k miles. :)

Dunlop

Dunlop

Same as mine then, that gives me a basic indicator of what to expect, mileage wise, from mine at least.

thanks
