My first few miles...

Featured Replies

I thought I would share my experience of buying my new Skoda Superb.

It is a 170bhp elegance DSG in brilliant silver.

I ordered it through drivethedeal. Everything went smoothly, although when I arrived to collect the wheels were not correct. I had ordered Luna alloys, not the standard ones. The drivethedeal order did say Luna alloys, but the order that Marlborough Skoda sent me did not explicitly state Luna. So, I suppose there is blame on their side, and my side for not spotting it when I signed the order. Either way they were not going to offer me anything and they initially blamed me, until I pressed them on it and managed to get £100 in accessories.. so not too bad really. To be fair there was not much they could do, but their skirting of blame irritated me.

Okay.. so onto the car.

It feels so smooth on the road. The gearbox is taking a little while to get used to, but really is astonishing. I live in a very hilly area and it seems to cope really well, even though I am only being light with my right foot. On the motorway it was fantastic the cruise control works really weel, and gets you back up to speed quickly when you click resume. My iPhone 4 works flawlessly and connects instantly. The sat nav is a bit poor, but I have not really had time to explore it much.

The lights are stunning. The car really has road presence, and lots of people take a second look... "is that a.... skoda???"

I have used the paddle shifts a little and I really like them - especially doing down hill, which is useful, although I doubt I will use them much, but I still think the 3 spoke steering wheel looks and feels much better than the standard one.

I will post some pics as soon as I have some, I will have to clear off some of the bugs from my motorway journey. One must have splatted over the light sensor as the lights stayed on even in bright sunlight, so I had to get rid of the pesky fly!

Nice one. I thought I was the only person who likes silver. Enjoy your new car and update further when you can. I am interested in the DSG having ordered same on my VRS estate.<div><br></div><div>Look fwd to the pics.<br><div><br></div><div>Cheers.</div></div>

Interesting to read that you used drivethedeal.com as I noticed the prices are quite good. I'm keen to read more about your purchasing experience from them. Was your car an estate, or the twin hatch... just thinking of the delivery delay and the potential effect on an order with drivethedeal.

Glad to see you're enjoying the motor :)

Yeah estate - the whole process was really easy. I just feel that the dealer is making a very small margin and therefore you don't get the customer service you might usually expect. Although really it was very simple and I would use them again.

Congratulations on your new Superb, and thank you for the interesting review.

I also bought mine online, through an independant broker (who ordered through a UK dealer) whom I found through WhatCar. I managed to get 17% off my new Superb, which I was delighted about. And the entire process from start to finish was very smooth. I had bought my wife a new Octavia in June from our local dealer, during the VAT-free offer, but they could come nowhere close to the savings on the Superb through the broker.

Wishing you many more happy miles of motoring.

How long did your new car take to arrive?

I ordered a Superb 170bhp elegance 4x4 with extras on the 9th June with a late September delivery date. i then heard it was due to be built from 11th Oct. Now its slipped again and may be this week but there again it may be next month - no one seems to know.

Seems there are problems getting the 4x4 systems and the 170 engines. Feedback from factory to dealers is terrible. My local dealer has no stock at all!

Anyone throw any light on this please?

Currently have no car as miles were piling on my CRV and price plunging - it lost £4k in 4 months as Honda sorted their chronic supply problems first... :(

Just seen my car come off the transporter. Collect on Monday. Ordered August 18th. BW40.

It's not just the light sensor that can activate your auto headlights, maintaining motorways speeds, using the wipers etc. can cause them to come on in bright conditions.

Piccccccccccccchaaaaaaares please.

Above 80mph with the lights in the auto position, they will come on. Same thing happens if you switch the wipers on for more than a certain period of time, its all in the manual and perfectly normal to see the lights on in daylight on the motorway,

But I never exceed 70 Officer! B)
