A new car from dealer

Featured Replies

Hello,

dear clubbers could you please be so kind and send me some information about what should I check out during receiving a new car from the dealer? What points are the most important? Because I will receive car within near two weeks and I need some data.

I will be appreciate for any suggestion :)

Print off a full spec sheet for the car you have ordered complete with any optional extras, then when the car arrives check off each item as you walk round the car looking for any scratches or other damage.

The car should be 100% as ordered, but it is not uncommon for things to be missed off.

and even if you havent ordered the optional spare wheel - make sure you check the car has got the tyre repair kit in the boot, mine didnt and I had to get the kit (a bottle of sealant and instructions in a clear plastic ziplock bag) and a blue pump that plugs into your 12v socket.

And get them to show you where your dipstick etc etc is in your engine bay just so you are sure.

Not too sure if the sealant and pump are suposed to come if you have an optional spare wheel!

You pay some extra, but not the full whack for the wheel and toolkit but you may find it REPLACES the pump and sealant, not AS WELL as!

Either way, it is worth trying to bluff the dealer as they may provide you with it.

Another thing is, obvious but, check you are the only name on the logbook/reg document as many dealers buy in and pre-register cars and sell them a little cheaper but legally, you will be the second owner, not the first! (Drop in value may not reflect lower purchase price).

I had a student who, on passing her test, went and got herself a Fabia as she liked them after passing her test in one. She had it from shop stock and although registered as a ten-plate, is in fact the older shape. She could have probably got a whopping discount or some meaningfull extras but had "Shiney car syndrome" and also she had motability allowance, that paid anyway but she COULD have had a newer shape or more toys to play with..... DOH!

Check the wheel bolts that they have not been over tightened.

I had a Ford many years ago and had a puncture even Kwik Fit when I called them out had problems getting the bolts undone.

The car was only 1 year old at the time, no sign of rust on the bolts they must have been over tightened on the assembly line

I now check the bolts as soon as I can when getting a new car.

Not something to find out on a cold rainy night.

Whilst you are doing this it is worth removing each wheel and putting a smear of copper grease on the chamfer in the centre bore of each wheel, otherwise they will corrode onto the hubs in no time at all, making them a b*tch to remove.

Yep , first thing I did when I got my vRS several years ago. I remember one account of a Fabia vRS driver having to "borrow" a plank of wood to lever the front wheel off after a puncture.

John

I should have also mentioned the grease I use molyslip graphite and put some on the cente boss as well

Another good buy is an extending wheel brace, the ones supplied with any made of car are next to useless

One supplier is My link but most good Auto Shops will stock them

Dear clubbers,

thanks a lot for your kind information :)

Now I can see that buying a new car isn't as easy as I thought :( but I hope everything will be ok with my new car and frankly I didn't think that The dealers are such liars :(

To be honest with you BRISKODA is fantastic forum about the cars. I am going to advertise it on our Polish forum for Skoda owners.

Once again thanks a lot for all suggestion and help.

If I get my new car I will definetly scribe something about impression on and fuel consumption.
