How to tell a CR from a PD

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We're currently looking at replacing our Fabia vRS with an Octavia vRS due to a growing family. I'd like to go for a CR engined Octavia. Having read the Parkers review, it appears the CR first appeared in May 2008 with the PD being phased out in October 2008 and hence a crossover period where both were available.

Having looked at a good few adverts now, it appears that not all listings are wonderfully accurate - I've even seen a 1.9TDI Octavia vRS! Is there a definitive way to tell a CR from a PD?

Thanks for any help!

It is a lot quieter! More petrol like in the sound. The PD will sound exactly like your Furby on startup. It red lines at 5k where i am sure the PD is 4.5k. It should also say on the log book. Not sure on the engine design though tbh.

Listen...If it sounds like a petrol..Its a CR diesel!

The CR is the one that's always stalling. :giggle:

Check the data sticker in the boot, if it has a CEGA code it's CR. If it's BMN then it's PD, simples :)

The sticker also appears in the service book. And the engine cover is totally different. CR engine cover has 4 diagonal lumps in it.

Thanks for the replies all. I was hoping for something I could ask the dealer to check for me over the phone, some of them are a long way from home you see.

It sounds like the data sticker might be the way to go or V5 if it's listed on there - does anyone know for sure?

Cheers

It wont be on the V5 as such (it wont say PD or CR) but if they give you the engine code - which is on the V5 then you can check that way.

Quickest check is the rev counter, the red line on the PD is about 4500 the CR redlines about 1000 rpm higher.

If you are looking at the engines, the plastic cover for PD looks like 1111, i.e four straight lines. The CR engine cover looks like 7111, if you get what I mean.

Pic shows CR engine.

And this is the PD engine:

mine says "OCTAVIA VRS TDI CR" on the v5

That doesn't mean anything.. I worked on a Skoda Octavia vRS Coupe the other day if you think the V5 is anything to go by!

Yep, I certainly wouldn't put all my faith in the DVLA on this one! :o

I like the idea of a coupe though. A bit like a Skoda Scirocco maybe? :D
