Cracked windscreen at 4 weeks old :(

Featured Replies

Today got walloped by a stone and a nice 10" crack appeared on the screen :(

Autoglass are coming to sort it on Friday but i fear things like the rain sensor will not fit properly after and it just wont feel "factory fit"

Anyone else had screens replaced ? Experiences?

Chris

Had my Mondeo's windscreen replaced and they done a brilliant job. You'd think it was factory fitted. Long as u tell them it's got auto lights/wipers then they'll send the right windscreen with the fitter. Once it's done honestly you won't know the difference

Had a Vectra C and a B6 done, just make sure you avoid autoglass as they are double dear, and have the car sitting out of any cambers when they do it, the leveller the car the better the new screen will fit.

It'll be fine mate, imo Autoglass are one of the best about and Mondeo's job was brilliant. Doubley dear maybe but if it's not you paying it who cares? lol Windscreen claims don't need declared unless u have so many in the space of a year or two

Make sure they take the new screen out of the van and check it before they remove the old one.... when i had the screen in my fabia replaced the guy took the new one out and it had a bigger crack in it than the old one!

As for the screen, i couldnt tell the difference between the standard and the replacement.

Hi There,

I had a screen put in my Superb after only 10 days!!!!!!!!!!!,

Autoglass did a great job.You couldent tell the difference.

STOP BRAKING SO HARD AND WEAR THE SEAT BELT THEN RICH, THAT WAY YOU WON'T KEEP SWEEDING THE SCREEN WILL YOU :giggle::rofl:

Whilst travelling up the M11 a couple of months ago I had a similar experience, a lorry in front kicked up a stone which hit the windscreen of my Superb Elegance.

At first it was just a chip so I rang Autoglass for one of their "invisible" repairs the earliest date they could offer me was 2 1/2 weeks later. Whilst waiting for the repair the chip

grew into a crack about 18" long. So I then rang Autoglass and arranged for a replacement screen which included rain and light sensors. This was fitted within a couple of days ( why could they have not repaired it before I'll never know.)

Anyway, to cut a long story short - the new screen fitted perfectly with all the sensors working correctly and you would never know it had been changed. The fitter did a 1st rate job of fitting it

and there was no bits of glass left anywhere. Everything was 100%.

Provided you tell them the car has the sensors and whether the screen has any tinting I am sure you'll never notice it has been changed.

Wife did the last one driving through Manchester, it looked like a bullet hole, bearing in mind where she was it may have been :)

One thing i would suggest is dont look , just let the guy get on with it , seeing your car with no screen fitted or the fitter pushing things back into place (not gently) does the pulse rate no good at all

Well,

Its all done and dusted. i had to watch him as i had it parked in our warehouse so couldn't leave him alone.

He has done a good job as far as i can tell. Just hope its as quiet etc on the motorway.

Can relax now :D
