Run Flat tyres and TPM

Featured Replies

I am considering putting run flat tyres Winter tyres on our Yeti as it obviously provides a way to get home without trying to change a wheel in the snow.

However I have noticed that some run flat tyres state that they aren't compatible with some tyre pressure monitoring systems. Any one know about a Yeti's as we have TPM on ours and I dont want to fit the wrong tyres.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Some TPM systems have an actual sensor in the tyre that will get damaged if you do run the tyre totally deflated. The Yeti's system has no sensors in the tyres as it only uses the ABS system to calculate and verify wheel rotation speed. If a wheel deflates it rotates faster and will trigger the alarm. Thus I'd say you should be fine ordering run-flats with a Yeti.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Whats the situation if for example as I had this year due to potholes, a dent in the actual alloy wheel which was only picked up during a service? Will the abs sensor pick that up as an anomoly in the same situation or is it purely based on speed ??

TPM is a £90 option. It is like a baguette from Aldi. Cheap as chips. It does what it says on the tin via a very simple method and that is it. Even an expensive system with individual tyre read outs won't pick up a bent alloy! emoticon-0145-shake.gif

Yeah ok wasnt suggesting it should, just wondered if a sensor monitoring speed would notice a speed anomoly due to a dent in the wheel twas all.
