Yeti - Another Amazing Secret Revealed

Featured Replies

Ye gods! Nobody here is going to believe how long it took me to figure out how to get the lid to lock into position!

I tried pulling it up from the rear, pulling it from the front, grabbing the sides and even reading the manual! It still wouldn't lock in position. I was beginning to think this was an option that I didn't have on my SM when my wife simply lifted it up and it clicked into place.

Now I have to wash the dishes every day for a week!

I still don't know how to do it properly. I just lift and wiggle it a bit and works. I have no idea which of the 4 positions it goes in, I just keep trying until it reaches a height I like. :giggle:

Watch the self locking bit:-

There is a story about the Octavia (somewhere, I can't find right now) of someone opening the rear door of the car, throwing the keys onto the front seat and putting the baby in the back in a child seat. Shut rear door and return to house to fetch something else - and hearing the car lock itself with the baby and the only set of keys inside.

Panick!

Might be the same on the Yeti.

(You will be pleased to know the baby went to sleep and was unharmed.) :)

Hmmm not so sure about this. Sounds impossible to me. The car will only lock itself after 60 seconds if no doors or boot were opened. As soon as you open a door it will stay unlocked until you lock it. The only way to lock a key in any VAG group car is if you only open the boot with the boot button on the key fob and then leave the key in the boot and then close it. The car will then auto lock. So if this baby was put in the boot and it was only the boot that had been unlocked I can see this having happened. Otherwise, no way.

It is possible to lock the keys in a VAG car, simply lock the car (with the remote) with either a door or the boot open, close said door or boot and the car will then lock itself.

OT but why are all the posts and users details from post #15 in bold?

This worries me a little.

I've noticed when I take stuff out of the boot, and the car is locked, I use the boot option on the keyfob. It means that when my hands are almost full, I can close the boot lid and it automatically locks.

It's only a matter of time before I leave the keyfob in the boot and close the door.

Ah! Did not think of that one! I've thankfully never been that stupid before! Did the boot one very nearly a few times but not this!

Mine is a Fabia rather than a Yeti, but I'm sure there have been a couple of occasions when it locked itself when I'd opened it with the "main" unlock, not just the "boot" one. It's possible I've accidentally nudged the "lock button in my pocket and it's done what Gizmo68 says, but knowing that would be little comfort...

The other possibility is you unlocked it, then didn't open the doors for a period of time ... then it locks itself again. This isn't exclusive to Skoda or even VAG though - my old Proton used to do that - which was a pain in the rear end, as the keyfob was VERY sensitive!

In the instances I'm thinking of, I'd definitely opened the door or boot (and there was therefore a risk of locking keys in the car)

So......you can set the arm rest to two different heights. Good stuff.

I found this picture showing the arm rest in its rear most position and pulled to the front:

I must me thick or something because I can't work out how to raise the centre armrest

The owners manual has 1 1/2 lines on how to do it and is about as useful as a chocolate teapot

Try raising it slowly because it has about 4 hight settings and if you lift it to far past the last one it will just drop down to the bottom again. when you get the hang of it its easy

Hello all, I'm looking to get a Yeti, so thank you to all the information on all the wonderful things the SM can do.

Regarding the locking the keys in the car, on my Octavia you can not lock the car with the drivers door open, as it will unlock when the drivers door is then closed.

Also something that the Octavia has and I presume the Yeti does, is if you hold the unlock button down then the windows will open and again if you hold the lock button they will all close. Has caught me out a couple of times when something has pushed the button in my pocket. leading to me coming out the next morning to a locked car with the windows open (both nights it happened it also rained :'( ) Lots of head scratching till I found it in the manual. needless to say I haven't done it since.

And yet(i) another:

If all the doors are not properly shut, the keyfob door lock will not work.

and.......

if you unlock the doors with the keyfob and do not enter the car within about 60 seconds, it locks itself again.

Next.......................... :p

If the boot isn't shut properly and you drive off , the internal lights stay on ! :o

Do I lift it when the lid is in the down position??

Where do I lift it from??

Can you post some pics plzzz

Doh!! :wonder:

It's the lid of the arm-rest/maxibox that we are taliking about!!

Hold the front and SLOWLY raise it. If you listen very carefully you will hear and feel a series of slight clicks. Each one of these clicks is one "step" up the "holding" system. If you stop after each click you will find the arm rest will NOT go down.

To release it, fully raise the armrest and lower.

Is that understandable?

come to think of it - a bit like a deck chair, eh?

Hey its not my fault its not clear is it??? :'(

Do you honestly want me to answer that? :giggle:

So, have you done it yet? :wonder:

No, Ivor's been in the garage since 2.10pm yesterday afternoon :D

We're taking him for a spin this morning to Ford Market in West Sussex so I'll let you know on our return.

Don't panic about not being able to figure it out - it took me a couple of days ... and only then after my wife intervened! It's not obvious ... well, it wasn't to me!

I can only reiterate what others have said ... close the lid, then lift it slowly and you'll hear/feel a click ... keep lifting and you'll get the picture!

Tried it and it works, but I must say..........its a bit of a RUBBISH feature as it's only a 'hinged' elevation, with the hinged end staying at a fixed level.

Why is it rubbish? When lifted to the top setting, and then the arm rest pulled forward all the way it is several inches higher and perfect to rest you arm on the end on the motorway. It works the same as the armrest in my old suberb, which is why I found the option immediately. Think how more complicated it would be to design one to lift up and stay horizontal at the same time. It would have to work like the armrests on office chairs fitted on a post.

Only problem is the resultant cold draft on the passenger from the can cooler in the armrest holder if it is on. Good job I don't have a left hand drive!

Mac, stop being a wingeing old fart and enjoy it. :giggle:

At least you've proved you can find some of the features we keep telling you about :giggle:

Now get out there and enjoy it!!

OKEEEEEEEEE...........................and less of the 'old' please :D
