Now offically a Skoda Owner

Featured Replies

Just picked up our 1,.6 Cr DSG Octavia Hatch.

It drives good Imho.................. being 225,500 miles used to the ould Galaxy, ...............def NOt lacking in low down torque as per some reports but again i be a diesel nut through & through,.......................... perhaps the DSG helps to mask this idosyncracy? however.

Did about 100 miles on the way home at 80mph on the motorway & dual, avraged 55mpg on the dash read-out,( he thinks) still a lot of twiddly bits to suss.

Disappointed there is NO Ph kit as standard esp on an Elegance trim, ours was a dealer ordered car so stock spec.

It is also a rather attractive Anthracite grey...........which is impossible to see against the wet road in poor light, would not have been my first choice.

And as usual I cannot see the instruments when i get in a comfortable position with the wheel low ( which is where I like/need? to have it)

So what is the best option for fitting a hands free phone kit.............Parrot? or what?

Cheers

M

PS Still hanker for a Yeti..........will wait for the diesel DSG ( but 4WD) option though

Congrats on the new car. I would recommend the Bury CC9060 for a good handsfreee kit. A better alternative to the Parrot kit imho. Not the most common kit but great customer support and functionality.

Thanks PSM, I will look at that option.

Another question the dealer said see you in 2 years or 20,000 miles whichever comes first, this when I asked about variable servicing or otherwise....but I see from the book that it states QS1 = variable servicing.

So which how long can I expect etc etc, I will prob ph the dealer when i have a list of unresolved/solved queries.

AND I forgot to blagg a litre of top-up oil.

I see they recommend shell Helix, though do not specify which one? or is shell Helix a universal spec oil?

Will do more homework.

Cheers again

Erm, not being very teco-lliterate, ( I be a bit of a DREN even).........does the car be fitted with "bluetooth" despite not paying for the bluetooth ph option, ie do I need to pay the dealer to retro fit blue tooth as well as purchasing the Bury kit or simply plug & play the bury kit?

Variable servicing timing will depend on driving style and average journey type/length. If you have maxidot you can find out the time and distance to the next service.

Dont dare f£$%^&* mention Maxidot, or the absence thereof, again I would have specced it iffen I had the option.

Gerrrrrr

i have the parrot fitted, works great, had them in my past three cars, easy to use and voice activation is great once set up.

Sigh,

I was taking a wee look round the car this morning, dipped oil ( still "bright" ......wow technology has come on), located jacking points, checked wheel kit all there etc,etc etc then was having a wee poke around the lights and ease of access for bulb changing. etc etc

Spotted a bodge of grey tape on the wires, adjacent the rear light cluster..............that will be the towbar electrics I thought in dispair,.............. then I spotted the bare end of a yellow wire, which i suspect should be connected to sommat.??

Where the F£$%^& do they get some of the auto electrical cowboys?????

So on the phone to the dealer, they are to get back to me on Monday.

I would point out that I had very specifically asked how the towbar would be wired in and was prepared to pay for the factory prep.

No need I was told...................... we use a very good local specialist, ...............and since i only wrote the one cheque I was happy all responsibility rests with the supplying dealer.

Gerrrr

PS what is the "industry approved" means of splicing into a loom?, i would have thought crimping? ( not Scotchlok type) and heat sealing??

Or should they work from a connector block?

cheers

M

PS more critically since we intend to keep the car 10 or 12 years.

Do I need to get a letter from the dealer certifing that they will stand any possibly future electrical warrenty claims that might otherwise be rejected on the grounds that the origional vehicle wiring had been interfered with./ i.e. not wired in accordance with Skoda's recommendations.?

Ok

Talking to myself ( as is not uncommon)

First, the car is a hoot to drive, the DSG (= Dogs Super Gonads) has me grinning :D from ear to ear,

I'm even using "kick-down" unnecessairly.

Her goes round corners a quare bit quicker than the ould Galaxy ever did :dull: ,

I will however, have to try a known corner , or a big lonely roundabout, in the wet (& sans Senior Managment) to see what all this ESP/TCS/EDL stuff does.

still find it a bit clostraphobic in the cabin mind, (sigh unlike a Yeti)

Then

PS

I spoke to a lovely man at Skoda UK, & only had to press one button to do so to, and he anserwed very promptly, and knew the dealership staff by name. So impressed by that at least.
