08 plate octavia VRS TDI PD - will it have a DPF?

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy an 08 plate of thereabout VRS TDI PD, it doesn't seem clear with many of these cars whether they have a DPF or not. Anyone know a general rule?

Second questions - are the DPFs on PD engines as fragile/death-prone as people make out?

Thanks for your time.

All PD VRS's will have a DPF. They had them from the start so they will all have them. I had a PD VRS with a DPF for 4 years with no DPF issues. My usual drive was 10 miles to work and back on a mixture of A/B/Motorway roads. Reading these forums would make you think the DPF is an issue but it is the minority of people who have issues. I would really not worry too much about it. People will post when they have issues but no one will post to say my DPF is fine.

Remember also that an 08 vRS may well still have some factory warranty left in case you have any problems.

Thanks a lot for the quick replys guys, you want to go even further to reassuring me that I'm making a very good decision, and that it's going to be a nice big step up from my present 52plate bora tdi (130)?

It should be a nice improvement over the Bora. The kick you get when the power comes in can be quite additive!!!!

I appreciate that people are more likely to post when there has bs een a negative experience, though its important to get a balanced view. my experience of the pd and dpf was not good, I wont bore you too much with the details, I had problems on at least half a dozen occasions with the dpf light coming on (sometimes not) and associated engine management issues and limp home mode cutting in. The dealership were going to charge me for sorting it out stating I didn't follow procedure and I drove too slow!!! a work collegue who was with me, couldn't believe what he was hearing!! the car was a 2007 on an 07 and I ran it for 3 years I did like the car so tolerated the problems, which persisted even on the day I handed the keys back. I've now a common rail version and the difference is so immense, the CR car is in a different league.

Its a shame we can't get an inside objective take on issues like this from skoda to put potential and actual problems in perspective. I would always favour transparency above glossing over issues

I do hope you have trouble free motoring and enjoy the car, I did despite the issues.

Thanks again guys, now, of course you have me wondering if I should try to hang fire on the off-chance for a really good deal on a 58 plate CR...
