aftermarket hid kits

Featured Replies

quick question for those running aftermarket hid kits ive seen 2 types of kit available.

one is normal kit

other one runs with a canbus decoder to stop bulb malfunction light coming on

just wondered which kit people have bought and did you have any problems with the malfunction light coming on afterwards?

You will need a CAN bus kit as otherwise you will get a bulb warning but seriously - just don't do the whole aftermarket HID thing. They all blind oncoming drivers, they look chav-tastic and generally they don't actually give any better vision.

I didn't get a can bus kit and have no warning light. Make sure you get them alignened after! And go for the whitest ones or they'll look gash.

You don't need the can bus for a fabia mk1. However you would be better off just putting brighter bulbs in rather than an HID kit. If not fitted properly (i.e. with the correct reflective lenses in the headlight) then they are illegal.

Good point, wonder about the VOSA checks thread....

You also need an auto light leveller kit fitted to stop blinding on coming traffic, something else the kit suppliers usually forget to mention; your car is illegal without it.

thanks for the info guys

have been looking at some euro style yellow h7 bulbs anyone any thoughts on these e.g. chav or just plain rubbish

anyone any pics i will have dark lamin-x tint on headlamp lenses aswell

I thought HIDs had to have washers by law as well :wonder:

As mentioned previously, these VOSA checks will almost certainly

become more common if they have some success with them.

Osram all season are about the only yellow (ish) bulbs

which are e marked and polycarbonate lens safe that I could find.

I have a set of H3s in my fogs plus yellow lamin X.
