Roomster SE 1.2 TSI DSG THROTTLE Lag?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I drive the new Roomster 1.2 TSI DSG(7 Speed auto).

Have only had the car a few days and have not gone over 60mph more than once so far.

After driving at around 45 -50mph and then stopping and turning the engine off there is a smell like oil inside the car.

I have looked around under the bonnet but see nothing wrong.

I noticed that someone else on here had mentioned it also.

One other thing is that while on the move gear changes(auto of course)are really smooth and also accelleration(to me)seems better than the last automatic I drove.

I do notice a lag in power when starting off from traffic lights or junction and roundabouts.

It seems like there is some pedal travel without anything happening and then all of a sudden there is power.

Anyone else know of this?

The lag on throttle is normal with DSG, there is a short delay as the clutches engage fully when you release the footbrake. Your driving style will soon adapt to take this into account, and it will be second nature once you are acustomed to the DSG box.

That is the one failing, IMHO, of the DSG box. The worse situation is when you are slowing for a right turn for example and spot a gap to go for. You accelerate and the gearbox decides it needs to change down so you have this delay that feels like a lifetime. You press the throttle harder as you start to get concerned by the vehicle whos path you're now blocking then the car takes off like a scalded cat, tyres scrabbling for grip! You become a little more cautious about what gaps you go for after that

In any other situation it's brilliant

The manual version suffers the same...up to 2000rpm it has all the power of a LADA, then pass the magical revs level and its woosh and away :giggle: ...Re the `smell` it could be the exaust pipe just burning off the first coat of gunk and it will soon pass with useage....anyways all the best and have lots of fun

I have noticed the same lag in power as you describe - to compensate for this I sometimes switch from automatic to manual og shift one or two gear down and then I have the power(as paully mention in his reply).

I know this is not the intention of an automatic gearbox or economic driving but it is effective. :)

I suspect this post is a bit out of date by now as I'm usually the last to find out most things. Yup, my Roomster suffered with throttle lag exactly as you have all described. I nearly got wiped out a couple of times so I took it back to the dealer. They ran some tests and sent the results to 'Skoda'. Called me back and put in a software update. Took about half a day. The new software has fixed the problem.

Some more comments: I noticed the same "lag" last summer when we got our Yeti (different car, I know, but still the same engine+gearbox) and I started driving with the DSG. The first couple of days getting moving from traffic lights seemed amazingly difficult. After a few days I got used to the car (or the other way round), and now I don't have the problem any more. I have even noticed that on slippery surface it's possible to very carefully ease away without wheelspin, almost better than with a manual box.

I have heard rumors about the software update for the 7-speed DSG, but I have not yet had the time to go for it so I can't comment on that one. On the other hand - our car is working beautifully as is so I don't have any need for an update.
