Alarming problem

Featured Replies

Two nights ago - at 1.00 in the morning - my audible alarm went off, although the hazard lights were not flashing. It may have been doing it for some time, because I go out like a light when I go to sleep. I went out to the drive and unlocked the car and relocked it. This appeared to reset the system. The following lunchtime, I came home in another car and the hazard lights were flashing and the alarm was not sounding. Again, I unlocked the car and relocked it with the key fob. Last night, same again, only this time at 4 o'clock. The audible alarm went off and not the hazards. The car had not been used between these events. I don't think I have p** ssed anybody off enough to come round and disturb the car, and even so, I assume that the alarm and the hazards should both be going.

Before I do upset everybody in the village, are there any ideas?

I think some people have got the dealers to adjust the alarm sensitivity for problems with alarms going off seemingly randomly.

I had a fly trapped in mine and it would set the alarm off, I was quite surprised how sensitive it was. Squashed fly = no more alarm :-)

If its a new FL then it would be set to high (100). Get them to turn it down to 70 which is the correct default, or 50 in my case! If the dealer says it can't be adjusted, find another one. My local dealer said this so i returned it to where I purchased it.

I have the same issue with mine. Until I can get to the dealer, I close all the air vents in the car before locking it. Seems to do the trick.

I should have pointed out that the car is a 2006 f/l and this has never happened before.

I've had this a few times on mine, mostly when it was windy with the boot (estate) facing the wind...after a couple of alarms in the space of 30 minutes I turned the car nose-facing the wind and it didn't go off again...

The thing that puzzles me is that the alarm and the hazards ae not coming on at the same time - I seem to get one or the other.

I've a 2006 and it happened for a couple of days. It was a moth.

A dying car battery can upset car alarms

Yes, I have exactly the same problem with my 2006 Octavia 11 and changed the battery as I also found it failed to start after standing for two weeks. However the fault is still there. (The flashing alarm lights probably flattened the battery!)You can also eliminate any internal things in the car (flies and moths etc) by diabling the interior sensor with the switch on the drivers door pillar. Mine still alrms whenever it wants to - even when I'm driving it ! Sometimes just the lights flash, sometimes lights and siren. Where is the siren so I can disconnect the damn thing?

Did you ever solve your problem?
