Ocy 1.8t lowering springs

Featured Replies

hi im new to this forum so be gentle.

i have an octavia elegance 1.8t, i love the spec and power of the car but find it rolls too much on cornering. i have been recomended to get eibach springs fitted and have been told this reduces body roll by about 30%.

firstly has anyone else got the same model with lowered springs? as i'm a bit worries as i think the front end is quite low already.

secondly are the eibach springs worth the extra money over cheaper makes

cheers

Dave, in my humble opinion, if your only beef is with the roll, why not just fit the Eibach anti-rollbars? You keep the same ride height, same performance over bumps but with a lot less roll.

Just a thought.

Oh, and welcome to the site. :wavey:

I'll echo what Jon (TaviaRS) said.

A rear ARB will reduce body roll and understeer. My Octavia Elegance 1.8T is fitted with a Neuspeed adjustable rear ARB (Briskoda group buy  ) and it has transformed the handling (or has it just boosted my confidence?) without affecting ride height or comfort.

Another alternative is to wait for an Octy RS owner to uprate their suspension, and buy or scrounge the standard RS suspension components. I'm sure Nick (ncarring) will be able to confirm that this is a worthwhile modification.

p.s. Welcome to Briskoda

Yup that works, as Mike says. I would still like more stiffness, and one day may go for uprated anti-roll bars too. Still trying to work out what is needed, front/rear/both, and what is the cost effective option.

And, of course, welcome ...

Hi thanks for the replies guys :)

Mike i take it you just upgraded the rear arb . what thickness did you get and how does it effect the handling in general does it make the car feel different.

and last of all are they easy to fit.

cheers

Rear is easy, front is a total bitch :D

Which is more important to do?

It's a Neuspeed 28mm ARB as described in this thread (this Group Buy is now closed, but I'm sure Adrian will be willing to start another if there's enough interest)

Cornering feels a lot more precise - not so much understeer - but I'm not sure how much of that is real and how much is due to me being a bit more "confident" about the car's handling.

Fitting is (so I've been told) a DIY job, although - being fat and lazy - I got someone else to do it. It looked fairly straightforward, but I think it would be easier if you have access to ramps (or even better, a lift).
