Gadgetshow Broadband speed survey 2010

Featured Replies

I like the peak time as defined between 2000 and 2200, where as most ISPs seem to think peaktime these days is about 0800 - 2300.

I am just in the process of moving from plusnet (premier option 1) to Sky LLU.

Just done mine and I'm getting just below 15mb - I'm with O2

Mine on Virgin 10meg

UP =.98MEG

Down = 9meg .

I have done it a few times and i seem to float between 12 and 15Mbps on a virgin media 20mb connection.. less than impressed!

OK - i cheated and did it at work:

Congratulations!

You're on a very fast connection which appears to exceed 100 Mbps. This tester has been designed to test UK broadband connections, and we're passionate about producing accurate results, so at the moment we're not able to give you a test result that we can be confident is reliable. However at those speeds, you don't really need us to tell you, it's fast. Go surf!

1.67Mbps down

0.34Mbps up

Plusnet 8Mbps service, with a sync speed of 7616kbps, so pretty useless performance me thinks.

I got 60Mbps down and 88mbps up at work.

Slightly different result on speedtest.net

Count yourself lucky - at the moment, between about 4pm and 2am, we're getting 130kbps on a 10Mbps connection (and only 5kbps the rest of the time TBH).

Need to contact Colin about doing a block change on URLs I've posted here prior to a switch to someone else, I reckon... :thumbdown:

Plusnet have managed to get even slower, so if I am not lucky my connection may be running at the same speed as yours soon:

0.41Mbps/down

0.33Mbps/up

I can do better than that on my GBP10 2.5G wireless card... :(

Tried they're speed test , just get a blank page saying , broadbandspeedtest<GIF Image,1x1...

Sure enough 4pm, and we're back down to 130kbps! So another 1-star rating for PlusNet, and another post to tech support!

I suspect I'm having my bandwidth restricted even though I have several GB left on my allowance - not that PN will admit it! :(

I am on Premier, option1, where my allowance if 60Gb (iirc), and 33% of that they apply light restrictions, and then even more at 66%. The system emails when that happens, and the slowdown only occurs during "peak" time of 1600 to 2359

Just tested it 2 minuets ago.

Down = 7.35

Up = 0.96

Virgin (M) 10Mb

Virgin 10Mb cable connetction,

Download=9.54Mbps, Upload=0.45Mbps.

Pretty consistant, tried several times today and got simillar results all the time. The speed above is just now (21:45pm) Saturday.

Plusnet have managed to get even slower, so if I am not lucky my connection may be running at the same speed as yours soon:

0.41Mbps/down

0.33Mbps/up

We'd have been pleased if our BT line got this a couple of weeks ago. :thumbdown: Now with virgin and get about .30mb away from what we should.

9.70mb down

.49 up.

Much better and cheaper too. :thumbup:

I remember one site that you put your post code in and once tested, you could see what results other people in your area were getting. I'm afraid I cant remember the site name.

This was mine

Pretty consistent at that as well.

Pretty bad mate, If the speed is gradually getting worse then you'll be having a bad line and I would be onto Plusnet for some faultfinding.

Down - 4.2

Up - 0.5

Talktalk 8meg. Not bad considering we're 3 miles from the exchange in the middle of no where!

I'm with virgin on a 8 meg connection and i am getting this

9.48 mbps - download

0.47 mbps - upload

download is not to back but the upload could be alot better

Tried to log on this morning, and found that the plusnet spanners had converted my account to PAYG before I had migrated to another provider, thus no internet for me. :'(

I am now connected via my Nokia e66 on 3g, with a download speed of 1075kbps and up of 345kbps. The upload is faster than my ADSL!

Still by Wednesday I should be on an LLU platform with some faster speeds....

plusnet are on a roll at the moment......
