Volkservice £205 for Fabia vRS Cambelt

Featured Replies

Has anyone had any experience with Volkservice in Blackpool? They have just quoted me £205 for a cambelt change on a 4 year old Fabia vRS.

If that's including VAT, that's very good!

Yes inclusive of VAT. Just wondering what peoples thoughts were on getting it done away from Skoda? It went in for what I was told was an oil service today and now they say it needs the cambelt doing... as I wasn't expecting it I was reluctant to let them get on with it at £350 on top of the £110 oil service...

Also is it worth getting the waterpump done at the same time?

Cambelt is four years or 60k, so they're right there. Waterpump isn't essential (unlike 1.8T) but you save on labour so it's up to you.

There's no reason not to use an independent, even for major jobs, if they have a good reputation. Certainly rather that than a chain...

Please tell why its not essential to change the water pump on a PD engine.

I've changed water pumps on 1.8t's and PD's and apart from the orientation of the "O" ring seal (1.8t internal "O" ring, PD external "O" ring), they are otherwise almost identical pumps.

Bill.

ive just had the sdi done today ,got some lousy quotes and nothing like as low as that , in the end i let the main dealers do it ,cost £310 that was including the water pump as it was only £30 extra ,have best part of 140k on the clock and done over 80k since the last time ,they gave me a courtesy car as well

I had my superb's cambelt and waterpump done at Volkservice for £299 just over two years ago, they seem to be on the ball and do not mess you about, I have never had any complaints and would use them again.

re. vrs180's post, I believe it's to do with the internal construction where the plastic impellor attaches to the metal shaft. What I do know is that there are many, many reports of pump failure on 1.8Ts, but it's virtually unheard-of for 1.9 diesels...

It just makes sense to me to change the water pump (if you can afford it) at the same time as they have access. It is a part that has the potential to fail so for the extra £40-£50 at the time it seems sensible. Rather than £250 for it changing if it fails in the future.

Just my 2p.

P.S. just had mine changed along with cam belt - cost me £400.

Hey, I never said you shouldn't consider it, just that the risk of NOT doing at 60k is much less historically on a 1.9 diesel than on the old 1.8T. After all, 50 quid is 50 quid!

FWIW, I decided not to bother at 60k on mine on advice of both the dealer and a particular member on here, but I will get it done next year when the car gets to 120k. The money I saved pretty much paid for the 70k oil change...

Massive thumbs up for Volkservice in Blackpool. After I was given a quote for changing the cambelt and brake fluid on my 56 plate Fabia vRS from the main dealer I phoned these guys up who quoted me £240 all in with a courtesy car. Dropped the car off at 8am this morning and it was done for 2pm. A warning light had come on the dash in the last few days so they checked that out on the diagnostics for free. Turned out it was a glow plug module fault but after resetting the ecu it hasn't come back on and there seem to be no issues. Nice tidy workshop and very easy access from the end of the M55.

That is a good price, although our local Skoda dealer can beat it - West End Garage are doing them for £199 at the moment!

That is good. Simpsons wanted £325 for cambelt and £50 for brake fluid

Think my VW dealer had £199 on all cambelts or something. Same engines in Skodas so maybe worth asking around them as well. Although it's now a Wayside Group  outlet so may well be different prices.

I know it's a little late but I can vouch for the service at Volkservice. They did my last major service and were excellent, although the courtesy car was a little ropey! I might give them a call as mine needs doing as well. Though if I go down I might be tempted to buy that Octy VRS they have in!

Yes, the coutesy car was a little ropey but the judder it had seemed to disappear at anything over 100 mph... ;)
