1.8Tsi fuel light on after 280 miles

Featured Replies

After 8000 miles I'm getting an average of 38mpg from mine measuring brim to brim. Computer is a bit optimistic - usually hovers around 42-43mpg average. Commute does not have much sitting in traffic which is not good for the 1.8TSI economy.

Lovely smooth quiet engine but does have an appetite for a bit of oil - I had the low oil light on yesterday at 8000 miles from new which was a bit of a worry. None of my previous 4 cars needed any oil between services.

Mine used quite a bit of oil in the first 4000 miles, but has settled down now, unless I start pushing it with very high revs.

My FL 1.8TSI has used about 1ltr of oil over 14k miles from new. I get high 40's mpg on the motorway, high 30's otherwise (unless stop-start city driving when its low 30's). Almost 500 miles to a tank on average. I don't tend to hoon it about regularly. For this great engine I think that's pretty reasonable.

Have never had oil light come on. Level usually remains about half way up marked area of stick, which is where servicing mechanic puts it, but have occasionally put in a cupful, more for peace of mind than for need!

However, I never go anywhere near the maximum rev limit (never needs it!) so maybe that helps.
